Baylor Bears Cruise to Women’s Title

The Lady Bears were favored headed into Tuesday night’s title game with the Fighting Irish, but anytime can win on any given day, right?

There could not be much more build up or hype heading into the Women’s NCAA Championship game than Tuesday’s match-up between the Baylor Bears and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Both teams were solid, talented squads, but most of the focus was on one—the Baylor Bears—as they looked to make history.

Make it they did, and in commanding fashion. Led by Brittney Griner, the Lady Bears won their first national title since 2005 with an 80-61 win over the Fighting Irish. The win made it the second season in a row that Notre Dame lost to a team from Texas in the finals.

Props to the team. I live in an area where one of the sports talk stations I pick up covers Baylor sports and I have to tell you, that school is starting to really make a name for itself. First the football team has a great year, the men's basketball team does really well, the women take the championship (and do something nobody has ever done before 40-0 wow...) and the men's baseball team is 12-0 in big 12 play...

Way to go Bears...
