Rangers fan, 107, has waited a lifetime for this season 02:54 PM CDT on Saturday, October 23, 2010 By NANCY VISSER / The Dallas Morning News nvisser@dallasnews.com ![]() At 107, Millie McCormick surely must be the world's oldest Texas Rangers fan. At her home in Autumn Leaves, a retirement community at White Rock Lake, she's been watching the Rangers progress toward the World Series. Would it happen in her lifetime? When McCormick turned 106 last summer, she had a visit with Joe Macko, the Rangers' community goodwill ambassador. The Rangers' victory Friday night fulfilled the dream of a long lifetime for McCormick. "At her age, she has learned you don't give up hope on anything. She is loving watching them on TV and is excited as can be about it," said her great-granddaughter, Millie Sessions. McCormick has been alive for every World Series – she was born July, 28, 1903, the year of the first official World Series. She was born Millie Alyne Youngblood in Tyler and was one of six children of a Baptist minister and his wife. She got her teaching certificate from what is now the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and taught first grade until she married Robert McCormick. Robert and Millie McCormick raised four children in Blooming Grove, a town between Hillsboro and Corsicana. McCormick outlived her husband and lived on her own until 101, when she moved to Dallas. Her daughter, Carolyn Beene, said that her parents were baseball fans who figured they would have to go to Kansas City , Mo., to see a major league game. Then the Rangers came to Arlington, where their son lived. They would babysit their grandkids by taking them to ball games. Now she watches the games at Autumn Leaves, where she has a Rangers poster hanging in her room.
