It would have been bigger news if he had signed with Boston. Imagine all the hoopla that would have made. I had the chance the see the Rocket live when we made the trip down to Corpus to see him take on our Missions.

he wont be a savior, i know that. but he will contribute greatly giving the bullpen rest while the rest of the staff gets its act together. the pavano signing could very well be the worst signing in MLB history.

He won't give your bullpen rest; quite the opposite. You'll be lucky to see the guy go 6 strong every night, if that. You're still going to need a solid long-reliever, or 2 reliable guys and Mariano, to close out his wins. And they already seem stretched pretty thin.

theres one way to find out if he will give them rest. plus the rest of the rotation is looking good. wang was almost perfect, pettitte and rasner had very strong outings. plus u got mussina. igawa is better out of the bullpen for now. farny, proctor, bruney, and myers are all very reliable. the pen has gotten a lot of rest lately.

A bigger story would have been if he came back and didn't aks for a cent to play. How much more money does the guy need?

lets see....they send igawa down...and this DeSalvo looks promising...a very nice start: 1 run in 7 innings. they will be the first team to have a 9 man rotation. but their bats arent hitting squat. a-rod is in a usual slump (im not booing him) but there are other guys on the team that can hit. bawston is jealous they didnt get the rocket.

There are 25 roster spots on an MLB roster. If one guy gets hurt he gets put on the Disabled List (DL) thus there is an open roster spot, so the MLB team will usually bring up a guy from the minor leagues to fill that roster spot which was vacated by the guy goin gon the DL. When the guy on the DL is ready to play again a roster spot must be freed up for him, thus someone either has to be sent to the minors, or put on the DL.
