i do not like either fighter personality wise. i do think that mayweather wins though. the last fighter who had better hand speed than de la hoya gave oscar fits (mosley) and mayweather is faster even than mosley. of course, as in most of these fights, it will probably be a tremendous bore.

That's basically the problem. There has been so much effort to hype this fight up as 'the real deal' but it feels much like a WWE set-up. I don't think they are genuinely worried about their legacies, because modern boxing is so corrupt/fragmented that any 'king' will just be wearing an aluminium crown. I don't feel any real 'heat'. The two fighters feel like partners, with the paying public as the real enemy. The result is academic.

trinidad did beat de la hoya in a majority decision. oscar took the last 2 or 3 rounds off and this cost him the fight, which he had pretty much handled. hopkins then destroyed trinidad. for the record, trinidad has picked de la hoya to win the fight, not that it matters who he picks.

De la Hoya is reportedly being paid £15m and Mayweather, 30, £6m.

He was able to negotiate this crazy split based on his huge popularity and residual credibility. He won't have that credibility any more after Mayweather wins this fight, so he won't be able to work toward a better payday. This is his pension fund. He just wants to get out healthy.

Mayweather is not even a tue Welter (is a fat SuperFeather), so I just don´t see him as a big killer in the Super Welter category (154 pounds). Mayweather can never knock De la Hoya down . We all know De la Hoya left hook can damage pretty badly any guy and he can certainly knock Mayweather down. Mayweather is faster, but De la Hoya punches will hurt him most. Besides, De la Hoya wants to enter to the retirement house by the big door, so he should be very motivated for this fight. I think De la Hoya wins by KO or KOT but not before the 7th round.

Mayweather will destroy Oscar from beginning to end. Oscar will do his usual barrage of punches at the end of rounds to try and steal the round, but I think Oscar will go down in the 7th round, however it will still go to the cards with Mayweather winning by unanimous decision.

mayweahter has had to move up and is not true at this fighting weight and it takes a lot of power to knock these guys out in the weight class plus being able to take the power shots, de la hoya is used to this weight and has the ko power. he will probably come into the ring at about 160 or so and has the power. this will be mayweather's true test he hasnt really fought anyone good yet. fighting a hurt, past his prime gatti and over rated juda doesnt mean much to me.

im gonna go with my boy oscar on this one, will see how it goes when each fighter takes on each's power punch. then we will see how this fight will turn out.

mayweather will have to punch up to catch oscar's height, which might take away some of his power so body shots will be key. no way is mayweather close to 5'8 1/2, id say he's about 2 inches shorter

Dude, you have no idea... Mayweather couldn´t even hurt Baldomir in his last fight, he can´t throw down a plus 160 pounds well trained boxer who happens to be taller and has a better arm reach. Mayweather is faster and technically better, but he has no power to knock out a well trained De la Hoya. I can understand if you go to UD, because Floyd has the in-and-outs combinations, but there is no way he can win by KO. Anyway, De la Hoya by KO or KOT not before the 7th, Floyd will never know what hitted him...

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Floyd Mayweather Jr. hadn't stopped talking since he signed up for the one thing he really wanted, a megafight with Oscar De La Hoya that put boxing back in the spotlight.

When the two met at Friday's weigh-in, though, even Mayweather had run out of things to say.

The loquacious Pretty Boy did little more than give a dead-eyed stare to De La Hoya during their weigh-in at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, where they will meet Saturday night in one of the most anticipated -- and hyped -- fights in years.

There was nothing left to be said after months of preparation and name calling. Besides, both fighters know the 154-pound WBC title bout will be determined not by posturing or pay-per-view buys, but by tactics and tenacity in the ring.

"Anything he's said about me, anything I said about him, we can settle it in the ring," Mayweather said. "Can't say nothing to protect you there."

The fight has much more to offer than the personality clashes and family drama so endlessly chronicled in recent weeks seemingly everywhere, including on their own reality series. It's a compelling contrast of styles and skills, with Mayweather's superb defensive game contrasting with De La Hoya's punching power and size advantage.

Though De La Hoya (38-4, 30 KOs) seems more likely to really hit Mayweather (37-0, 24 KOs) than most of his previous opponents, can the Golden Boy do enough damage to hurt one of the quickest and most gifted fighters in recent times?

And will Mayweather risk trading punches with De La Hoya, or will he take the safe way out and try to box his way to a decision in what could be a lackluster fight?

Most oddsmakers and prognosticators favor Mayweather in a decision, but the odds have steadily dropped in De La Hoya's favor during fight week.

"I think everyone will be surprised to see what I can do," De La Hoya said. "We have a solid game plan for this fight, and he's motivated me every step of the way by the way he acts."

Though the hype promises a fight that could live in boxing history, true fight fans understand this matchup could be a huge anticlimax. That's because Mayweather has remained unbeaten largely by using his spectacular defensive techniques and speed to avoid getting seriously punished by any of his 37 previous opponents.

Both fighters made the 154-pound limit Friday, with Mayweather weighing just 150 pounds and De La Hoya hitting exactly 154. Rapper 50 Cent accompanied Mayweather to the stage and draped himself in Mayweather's numerous championship belts, while De La Hoya got most of the fan support from perhaps the biggest crowd ever to attend a weigh-in in this gambling city.

But De La Hoya could outweigh Mayweather even more by the time they step into the ring Saturday night, thanks to his larger frame. Mayweather, a champion in four weight classes, has never fought above 147 pounds, while De La Hoya has been fighting at 154 or heavier for the last six years.

Although De La Hoya is likely to throw harder punches, Mayweather is harder to hit than any fighter in the game. He's simply too fast for the average contender, bobbing his head and swiveling his hips away from everything thrown.

De La Hoya recognized the problem during his preparations, and trainer Freddie Roach worked on improving De La Hoya's speed and ring generalship, hoping to limit Mayweather's escape routes.

"There's one thing that people don't know about me -- when somebody fights fast, I convert myself into that," De La Hoya said. "I think people are going to be surprised that I can match his speed, or do even better. We knew early on that you have to challenge Mayweather."

If the fight goes the distance, Mayweather believes De La Hoya will get tired, citing his history of late-round exhaustion. De La Hoya trained for the fight at sea level in Puerto Rico, and Mayweather thinks his higher-altitude training in Las Vegas will serve him better.

"He probably would have got tired later, but now he's going to get tired earlier," Mayweather said. "Don't be surprised if I stop him. He's already showed he's a quitter against (Bernard) Hopkins. He already showed he gets fatigued."

The crowd will be dotted with celebrities and past champions in seats currently re-selling for the highest prices ever reached.

The most conflicted spectator will be Floyd Mayweather Sr., resting uncomfortably in seats provided by De La Hoya, his longtime pupil. Though the elder Mayweather still feels loyalty to the Golden Boy, he won't root against his estranged son, either.

Although De La Hoya wants a win to prove he still can beat the best and add to his legacy at the age of 34, Mayweather needs the victory to back up his chatter and affirm his unofficial status as the world's pound-for-pound king.

"I'm the excitement in the fight," Mayweather said. "They say I don't put on a show. I can't help it if I'm that good, that I can dominate opponents like that. And they're going to see a show, I promise that."

It was a Mayweather type fight. Stayed in the center and had Oscar eat left hand to the body, right hand to the head. Split decision was official. I don't agree, I felt Mayweather should of won it unanimously.

Yea De La Hoya won some rounds, but Mayweather picked him apart. By the 8th Mayweather figured him out. Jab to the body, then quick right hook to the head. Oscar didnt do anything to combat that. Even though Oscar threw more punches, most of them came in those barrages I told you about. The crowd, which was easily pro-oscar, may have influenced oscar barrages, because none of them didnt much damage.

Boxing has changed so much that you do what is effective and scores you rounds. Not by trying to knock someone out. That is why I respect Pacquiao so much. That guy just seems like he wants to fight and it doesnt matter if he gets hit as well.

I had the fight even after 8 rounds really a close contest


Then in the 9-12th rounds DelaHoya quit firing the jab was far less active and effective with his punches and was clearly out boxed in the center of the ring .Oscar was the aggressor but wasnt able to really hurt mayweather .Overall i had the pretty boy taking 7 outta 12 rounds .

Ok fight but not the greatest neither fighter could really hurt each other with floyd landing the stiffer more accurate punches down the stretch

^^i had it close also, i said to myself if oscar can put together 2 more good rounds, we might have a draw, but he stopped jabbing. honestly i would not have chased him, made him come to me, floyd is a counter puncher and obvious dlh could take his punch and defende well most of time, i doubt floyd would be standing if dlh was able to actually plant and get in a left hook, when they got close oscar was too straight up to land a good power shot.

I'm a good sport. I had mayweather winning 7 rounds to 5. I don't understand why Oscar never used his jab. He coulda easily won a few more rounds and the fight had he used his jab that always does. He and Roach had a bad game plan. I hope there is a rematch. Mayweathers D is awesome. Oscar coulda landed his jab all night though.

the real winner of this fight was UFC. de la hoya needs to just stick to full time promoting and mayweather needs to fight a real opponent like winky wright or bernard hopkins. truth is that neither one of these guys could hold a candle to leonard, hagler, hearns, arguello, duran, sanchez even john "the beast" mugabe (sp.?). at least then the boxers delivered. what a scam! good thing i did not pay for this waste of time.
