The San Antonio Missions will open the 2007 season on the road April 5 against the Tulsa Drillers (Colorado Rockies Double-A affiliate) and their home opener on Thursday, April 12 against the same Drillers. The 2007 season marks the first with the Missions new MLB affiliate, the 2006 NL West Division Champion San Diego Padres. Fans will notice big changes on the field Opening Night, as the Missions will return to a National League style of baseball without the designated hitter. The most notable improvement that fans will recognize at Wolff Stadium next season will be a State of the Art LED video scoreboard. The LED video screen, estimated at 16 feet tall by 22 feet wide, will supply outstanding image clarity, true color reproduction and exceptional brightness, plus it will have full Instant Replay capabilities. The other major improvement to the stadium will be the "Fiesta Deck", which is an ALL-INCLUSIVE entertainment area for groups to enjoy Missions Baseball. The multi-leveled deck will accommodate up to 200 people and provide an exclusive area for corporate partners and local community organizations. Other renovations to Wolff Stadium will include, improved sound system, lighting system, new paint, repaired irrigation systems and renovated concession stands. Season Tickets are on sale now for the 2007 season with some great seats still available. All packages include tickets to the H-E-B July 4th celebration with Robert Earl Keen. You can purchase season tickets, or get more information by contacting the Missions at 675-PARK (7275). Individual game tickets are on sale at the box office. Minor League Baseball is great, such a kickback aptmosphere and usually a real bargain... The Padres have some talent in their farm system so the Missions may be pretty decent. If San Antonio ever hopes to have an MLB franchise they have to support the Missions.

All I know is that when Arizona got their franchise their support of AAA ball and Spring Training for decades was cited as a major reason we got a franchise. Competition is keen for MLB franchises. Look at Washington DC - Congress had to make overtures about revoking MLB's antitrust exemption before they got a franchise back. San Antonio doesn't have any such leverage. Do you think some civic minded individuals just decided to move the Chaparrals here from Dallas?? No. It was San Antonio's support of the Rockets when Houston played games in San Antonio in the seasons just prior to Dallas' relocation that turned heads . In fact attendance in SA was better than in Houston for the Rockets. Before that San Antonio was thought of as minor league city that would have 10,000 people turn out week in and week out for High School Football but could never support a major league franchise. I strongly feel that San Antonio has to support what they have If they hope to get anything else. |

Awesome! I know that the Witchita and Corpus game was called off twice on back to back nights and just yesterday, they completed a double header of their own. I guess they'll game up game three in June at Witchita.

I'm sure if this was the case in SA, everyone would be using the increase in attendence as a reason for getting and deserving a pro-team. |

The Missions wanted to take care of the much needed things for the park first. Everything else will come but a new scoreboard, new lights, and sound were much needed. It will take some time. Quote:

| It sure was a nail biter. Midland scored the 8th run in the bottom of the 9th and had runners on the corners with two outs when they grounded out to end the game. Corpus defeated Frisco 14-11 today so: TEX South
Tomorrow night the Missions come back home for a four game series against the Frisco RoughRiders. Mildand will take on Coprus Christi. Last edited by LocalSportsFan; 04-23-07 at 10:32 AM. |

I'm really happy that the Missions came out of Midland with a split. The first two games looked as if the Missions weren't for real but they are and hopefully they will do well agianst Frisco.
