Ginoblii To Play With Argentina In Summer Olympics

Don Harris on WOAI 6PM news said he spoke with Manu's agent Herb Rudoy about an hour ago and "Manu has every intention of playing in the Olympics."

Harris went on to say "Ginobili spent only 24 hours in San Antonio getting both an anti-inflammatory shot and an another MRI on that ankle. He is now in route back to Argentina and will be presented with the flag at the presidential palace by President (Cristina) Fernandez at a big ceremony tomorrow."

"Rudoy made it clear to me, Manu's got his mind made up. He (Rudoy) told me on the phone last night:

'Manu told me last night, that the ankle feels fine. It's much better. He returned to Argentina today. His plan is to go to Beijing to play in the Olympics and to carry the flag. Barring something unforeseen that is his intention. You would have to shoot him to keep him out.'

He has spoken with the Spurs about a contract extension with Ginobili, but that is now on hold until after the Olympics are over."

Manu to play in China !

Don Harris on WOAI said he spoke with Manu's agent and Manu has every intention of playing in the Olympics.

Harris also said that is already heading back to Argentina and will be presented with the flag by their President.

SO manu will go to China and play in the Olympics and to carry the flag. That Manu would have to be shot for him not to do it.

Agent spoke with the Spurs about a contract extension now is on hold 'til after the Olympics.

Another antinflamatory shot? why, his treatment here was much better then the Spurs...

Well i guess he had to agree for this.

Too bad the Spurs are speculating with his resign, if Manu has a good 08-09 season he will be hearing good offers.

I cant be that selfish to want him to fail at his dreams

I hope he is ok and I think he will be but I would NEVER wish his team get knocked out early or that he somehow fails

thats sick

We're not thinking in terms of him failing but to rest that ankle for next season.

I wish him all the best there but I was hoping he would rest his ankle.

But Manu's a competitor, so more power to him to compete there.

Two thoughts:

Bonnington must be happy now. Manu is playing, regardless of the injury and its ramifications.

If the USA ends up playing Argentina for the gold, for the first time in my life, I will be rooting for another team to win.

Definitely no reason to extend him pre-Olympics. Wait it out and see how he performs in the '08-'09 season. If he struggles with injuries again, let the contract expire, offer to re-sign but don't break the bank.

I wouldn't offer him the extension just yet. Lets see how things develop this summer and this year.

I hope we do not offer Manu any extension until 2010, lets just wait and see how his body at that point.

no reason to wait on offering an extension and there is nothing reported here saying SA is doing that. Manu is busy...talks will be when he comes back

You dont want Manu hitting Free Agency

letting he contract expire makes no sense at all for many reasons
