SAN ANTONIO, Texas, United States—The San Antonio Spurs withstood a 41-point performance from Amare Stoudemire, hanging on for a 113-110 victory over Phoenix on Sunday that halted the Suns' NBA winning streak at five games.

Richard Jefferson scored 20 points in his best performance since he lost his starting job.

Tim Duncan had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Spurs. Manu Ginobili also scored 21, including 11 points in the fourth quarter, while Tony Parker, returning to the lineup after missing a loss at Houston on Friday because of illness, added 16 points.

The Suns' Jason Richardson missed a golden opportunity to tie the game with 40 seconds to play, but stunningly mis-timed an uncontested dunk.

Richardson's one-handed slam bounced off the rim as his teammates looked on in disbelief.

Phoenix came into the contest as one of the hottest teams in the NBA, having won 11 of their last 13.

But the Spurs managed to hold on for just their second victory in five games.

Stoudemire had 14 points in the fourth and Richardson half of his 20 points in the quarter—his only missed shot the disastrous dunk attempt.

Steve Nash connected on a long three-pointer with 4.6 seconds remaining to pull Phoenix within one, and the Suns had one more chance after Ginobili made two free throws.

Needing to go the length of floor with 3.2 seconds to play, Nash passed on a three-pointer and passed to Channing Frye as time expired.

Nash finished with 18 points and 11 assists, while Stoudemire surpassed 30 points for the fifth time in the past 13 games.

Jefferson, demoted to the Spurs bench a fortnight ago after disappointing as a starter, scored 20 points for the first time in two months.

The Spurs are in for a tough closing stretch in the regular season, with 16 of their remaining 26 contests against teams with winning records.

Wolves' fan: ginobili vs. the wolves is like he's just kind of laughing to himself all game...kind of like he thinks it's cute that they're trying to play basketball.
