I watched every Spur game this season, and from close inspection of the game I have to say that we don't get a lot of calls our way. I know as a fan I have to respect that the NBA is well, just the NBA. Stars get star treatment and yadda yadda yah. Seriously, if stars got star treatment then where is the calls for our superstars. Last night I laughed until I could not anymore after watching Deron William elbow George Hill as he tried to clear him out. That play had offensive foul all over it. And then a few minutes later, to cause more fuel to this conversation. George Hill begans a driving motion to the rim and Deron Williams clearly fouls him upon beginning this motion. Wow is all I have to say. They were also a couple of calls that should of been called on Carlos Boozer. I mean the guy freakin elbows the crap out of any player when he tries to gather a rebound or score. I feel he should of been called for more fouls when Tim Duncan would take him to the hole. Boozer either reaches in or gets a whole lot of Tim's arm. It's pathetic. I absolutely love the way the Spurs are playing D. But they have to shore up on the Offensive boards, and well the Refs have to be more fairer. I hate to see a game impacted so much by the officiating.

The refs are not being friendly to us, I agree. I see Hill as the guy impacted the most, and it's mostly an issue of playing time and getting respect. Same thing goes for Malik Hairston. Blair is not getting calls, but that's because he's usually out of position. Other guys (e.g. TD) aren't getting the respect we might like, but that's year in, year out. RJ is getting plenty of respect, and they are letting Bogans play his style of defense. So I don't think we have too much to complain about overall. |

Honestly, I never notice. I think everyone feels their teams don't get enough calls. I'm sure none of us complain when we blow out an inferior team about how we didn't get calls. It's part of the game and players have played basketball long enough to know how to play through the refs. George Hill hasn't.

One point seems to be forgotten as well. The refs can only call what they see and what they see clearly. When a foul happens they may be looking another direction or they may be screened by other players. Also, even if they are looking right at a foul they may have a bad angle and so not recognize it for what it is. And finally, they may see a foul committed but not clearly enough to make a definitive call. What this boils down to is that the refs will NEVER catch all fouls. Successful officiating inevitably has to be measured in what fraction of fouls are caught. |

Yeah. I noticed that. I remembered, while watching the Spurs/Jazz game, hearing Elliott say that a certain rookie (might have been blair) would not get fouls called his way because he hasn't been in the league long enough. Bill Land chimed in and said that it should not be that way..........Sean agreed. IMO.......a slap on the arm should be a foul whether you are a rookie or a 12 year vet.
