Spurs' Ginobili to miss 7 to 10 days Spurs' Ginobili to miss 7 to 10 days Mike Monroe After being examined by members of the Spurs medical staff Thursday, guard Manu Ginobili has been ruled out of action for seven to 10 days. An MRI exam confirmed that Ginobili suffered a mild left groin strain during Wednesday's game against the Mavericks in Dallas. He previously had been bothered by a left hamstring strain that caused Spurs coach Gregg Popovich to sit him during the fourth quarter of a loss to Oklahoma City on Saturday. Both Ginobili and All-NBA point guard Tony Parker, still ailing with a sprained left ankle, were inactive for Thursday's game against the Jazz. Parker now is listed as day-to-day. The muscle strains that have plagued Ginobili are a disappointment after a summer spent taking it easy so he could rehabilitate a stress fracture in his right ankle. “I'd be disingenuous if I said I wasn't disappointed he's been hurt in different ways since he did rest this summer,” Popovich said. “I'm surprised by it, and didn't expect it, but we still have to deal with it.” Asked if he was alarmed by Ginobili's early injuries, Popovich played it coy. “I'm just going to stick with what I've already said,” he replied. Team physician Dr. David Schmidt said Ginobili will be on a regimen of ice, compression and stretching until the groin heals but stressed that the strain was considered mild. More injuries: Spurs point guard George Hill took an elbow in the mouth late in the second quarter and feared he had lost a tooth. As it turned out, a tooth was loosened, but Hill won't lose it. Power forward Antonio McDyess got two stitches in his chin after the game to close a cut he got when he was elbowed by Utah's Carlos Boozer late in the game. “When Boozer drove to the basket I went to block it and they called a foul on me,” he said. “He elbowed me in the chin to get the basket, and I got the foul. “Things aren't going our way in any games right now, so it's hard to take.” Give that man a sandwich: A pregame well-wisher congratulated Jazz coach Jerry Sloan on his induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame. When the person suggested that the coach's speech during ceremonies in Springfield, Mass., could portend a post-coaching career as an after-dinner speaker, Sloan snapped off this one-liner: “I'll starve to death first.” Wow interesting strong words from Pop about Manu. I have a feeling this is Manu's last year as a Spur even if he comes back healthy and I think Manu knows it too. |

I am starting to get a little worried about Manu. One of the things we discussed back around the time of his injuries last year was the altered biomechanics involved in significant lower extremity injuries. Basically, Manu is a finely tuned machine. When he injures one body part, it changes his balance and the forces with jumping, running, and cutting to the other parts of the force equation-- knee, ankle, hip joints, plus all the muscles/tendons, and the opposite leg. Not to mention the low back. So I wonder if this is inadequate conditioning, or something far worse-- a sign that Manu's body can't handle the changed biomechanics post-injury and we're going to see a chain of minor injuries derailing him in series over the remainder of his career. |

Manu is not trade bait. I will eat my socks if we trade Manu this season. Here is Grizzly's paradox of Manu's trade value: if he is healthy, we wouldn't want to trade him; if he is injured, nobody will trade for him value for value. If he is unhealthy, he is worthless as far as trade value. No one will trade a healthy superstar to us for an injured superstar. He will not be traded, because we might as well see if he gets better rather than taking spare parts back. If he is healthy, he is as good a player as any in the league and he will not be traded. So either way, he won't be traded. |

I love Manu and he's done so much for this franchise. But if the Spurs do resign him this summer, i hope its a two to three year deal. Because the way he plays, he's not going to play many more years in the NBA at a high level. |

Love Manu, but this is exactly why the Spurs didn't do an extension before this year. If he can't play, he's useless. I hope he plays himself back into a contract with the Spurs. But if I were the Spurs, I would only do a short term contract, if any. I sense them stringing Manu along in the offseason to see if they have a realistic shot at signing another FA before offering Manu a contract.

Its pulled groin..not a knee problem or god forsake another ankle issue. Now groin injuries could longer but they seem to have it under control. For instance Kobe I think has had a similar injury this year and has played through it.

I'm not so sure so much rest this summer was good for Tim and Manu. I think some of these injuries are from not being in better shape. At their age, rest is important, but it can also take them longer to get back in shape.

Well I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he did go to the Lakers if he left. We all know how much Kobe loves Manu and just this week Manu answered a bunch of questions and admitted that it could happen. If he can stay relatively healthy and the Spurs don't want to offer him much of a contract I could see him with the Lakers. Manu would take a lot less money to be on a team that could win and the Lakers would be one of them. Quote:

Keep telling yourself that and givinging Manu the benefit of the doubt. I chose not to depend on Manu being there 100% anymore. Pop has to figure a way to get this team over the hump with very little expectations from Manu. Because Manu seems to be on the verge of breaking down. And can no longer be that Manu we all know. Naturally his game is depending on being athletic enough to do all those acropatic thing he do and he can no longer afford to do so. Although he might try and play extremely efficient in one or two games, then he will deteriorate and be out for 5 games, and go off and on for the rest of the season. The Spurs system and the NBA season is just too difficult and long to be sporadic like that to accomodate Manus shifting body and changing game. The only option I see is to put Manu and keep him rested and sort of inactive for long time then play him few minutes end of season and bring him completley by PO time ala Horry. But we all know Manu will be bored to death and won't be happy, and I am not so sure his game would not suffer from sitting too long as he did relax and rest during the off season and that did not help him either..... By mid season and after the ASG is when we will all know why the Spurs FO never offered any extention contract to him last year. It might be still too early to judge Manu, but it looks real bad so far... Get Well Manu! |

Again..I mean its a groin injury..thats NOT serious. If he had an ankle problem or leg problem..that would have him out like month or two...then I would worry. Manu wasn't playing great before the injury but he had some pretty solid games..along with a few break out ones. First one comes to mind is Dallas. Really its too early to tell.
