'Sheed meets with Celtics brass and all-stars, receives offer ("not in a hurry")

FREE PRESS NEWS SERVICES Free-agent Pistons center/forward Rasheed Wallace reportedly met with several members of the Boston Celtics on Thursday.
The Boston Globe reported that Wallace, who came to Detroit in 2003-04 and helped the Pistons win the championship that season, met with Celtics managing partner Wyc Grousbeck, team president Danny Ainge, coach Doc Rivers and all-stars Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen in Detroit.
The Globe cited one source as saying that the Celtics made an offer and that Wallace made no decision during the meeting. The Globe's article was summarized on ESPN.com.

The Globe, citing a single NBA source, said that Celtics managing partner Wyc Grousbeck, team president Danny Ainge, coach Doc Rivers and All-Stars Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, all met with Wallace for three hours in Detroit.
The Celtics are reportedly offering a contract using the mid-level exception, the Globe reported. The newspaper said that Wallace didn't make a decision during the meeting. The Boston Herald reported that Wallace has informed teams courting him that he won't make a decision quickly.
Wallace averaged 12 points and 7.4 rebounds last season for the Pistons. For his 14-year career, he's averaged 15 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.

Boston Celtics send big hitters to woo Rasheed Wallace, according to report - ESPN

If Boston offers 2 years, Spurs should give 3. If it picks up at least one more (and maybe luckily 2) then its definitely worth it. Now Lakers have Artest (at least verbally), so Spurs will need to fill in their areas of need.

I would just like to know how Celtics managing partner Wyc Grousbeck, team president Danny Ainge, coach Doc Rivers and Boston’s big 3 of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen felt like leaving Detroit empty handed after doing their song and dance for over three hours. I’m sure they felt they were going to get a commitment after sending in their 1st team. What a belly drop. I wonder how the Spurs FO will feel this time next week?

this is from Yahoo's "Ball Don't Lie" spots blog

Quote:
Jimmy Shapiro of Sports Radio Interviews shares his recent 3 a.m. casino encounter with the Boston Celtics forward:

So I'm heading back to my room and I see Paul Pierce playing craps. Obviously, he wasn't part of the contingency romancing Rasheed Wallace to the Celtics on Thursday or most likely on Friday. I'm in a semi-Red Bull and Vodka daze, but not enough that I don't have my bearings [...]

I watch him play craps for a few minutes and when a lull in the action occurs, I say, 'I thought you were supposed to be wooing 'Sheed.' The Truth didn't take too kindly to my statement. He then says, 'Oh man, can't I get any privacy! Shouldn’t you be looking for girls.' I then tell him I'm married and Pierce then says to me, 'Then why are you in Vegas?' My response is I'm here on business working with Doyle Brunson for the WSOP Main Event. He loses his roll of the dice and slams his hand down on the craps table as hard as he can. I'm not sure if I should feel guilty, not give a crap, or run as fast as I can.

I decide to stay for another minute. He mutters some more stuff under his breath and then offers to buy shots for me since I'm not chasing women. I politely decline and head back up to my room ...

Yeah but no guarantee he is going to come here even when he does visit. He can come here and strart on this team sure, Spurs have more to offer.

I think it depends on how much he really wants to play beside Timmay, if it is as much as he said last year then he very well could be here soon.

I am shocked after they tried to get him so hard that he did not commit to sign the other day (Many I talked to last night acted as if he was already there at a party I went to), maybe something really is weighing on his mind and he knows as great as their pitch was to him he would rather start here?

No there is not. But Boston made their "grand" pitch. It seems like Orlando is falling off as one of the top chasers. So that leaves the Spurs who fit really good on paper due to their need for another big man for starting and playing any number of minutes.

The nice thing is Sheed played for Larry Brown so he'd know how Pop would coach.

i think the fact that boston left after three hrs and their "a" team presentation that it bodes well for the Spurs.

1 - Sheed is taking his time on the decision so he shouldn't be fooled with wow. (that means *allas is not a real contender)
2 - the Spurs don't wow they deal with the truth and maybe that is something that he'll respond to. (he's gonna take a pay cut so don't sugar coat it let him know where he stands)
3 - Timmy!!!
