SA needs to pass on Rasheed if it takes a 3 year deal. Wallace is too old to get a three year deal.

Then we will just hand over the WCF to the Lakers....cause I donte see any other Big man on the FA front that will come here....

With FA signing it seems like every hour we are gonna have some slim pickings if he turns us down in the middle of next week....

i keep seeing you guys throw out all these starting lineups with manu as a starter, id rather our starters be...

TP
Finley
RJ
Sheed
TD

then have manu come off the bench for some scoring punch, have hill and mcclinton sub in for TP, blair and some other big come in for sheed and TD and bonner as the victory cigar

A bad inbounds play involving the nuggets......hmmm. Thought I saw something like that recently. LOL

Definitely Manu comes off the bench, but I think it will look more like:

Parker
Mason
Jefferson
Duncan (He insists on being called a PF)
Sheed

That leaves Manu and Hill off the bench in the backcourt. Finley on the wing, with Bonner/Blair/Manhimi as our bigs.

As much as I want Sheed, I think we shouldn't just grab him and call it a summer, looking for a discount big should still be on the agenda (Some expiring contracts for someone or someone taking a BIG cut for the ring).

i like your starters. i'd like to see a bench unit of (i'd rather Bonner & Finley only do spot duty):
Hill/McClinton
Manu
Gist/Hairston
Blair
Ian

if we could put that 5 on the left to play (and if Gist & Ian were actually good enough), that would be a crazy change of pace for our team - very similar to how the Lakers used their bench 2yrs ago to bring in young athletes to pressure the ball and move quick on defense, while running the floor and changing the pace. this would be like a complete new team where manu could be basicallly going run n gun style almost in orchestrating the offense, but we'd still have solid defenders and a lot of length. the rookies are obviously huge question marks though.

Back to the title of this thread... Rasheed coming to San Antonio next week, sounds like an anouncement will be made at that time. I mean the Spurs brass would have made a trip to his home otherwise. Orlando flight plans could be before his stop in SA or they may get cancelled. I have a very good feeling about this.

Yeah, Sheed is #1 option then if he backs out go with Gooden as a back up plan. Give both of them the MLE with 2 year deals with a player option for a third. Then we can still be shoppers in a few years.

the thing i worry about is that jermaine o'neal was scheduled to visit san an as a free agent in '03, but even before he could visit he was convinced by indiana and re-signed. i hope the spurs don't miss out on a similar opportunity because they waited around. more importantly, i hope sheed gives them a fair chance and listens to what's available (which i think he will) - the agent is obviously gonna say good things about boston.
Yeah more money is one stopped him from leaving.

They have a chance. He obviously is serious or he would have just settled with the Celtics. He already was rumored to be in San Antonio before he could even talk to the Spurs FO.

I look at Boston's trip to Detroit differently . . . I think they thought the Spurs have the inside track -- so they rallied the troops and went there to beg.

This is very similar to 2006 when everyone thought Finley would sign with the Suns or Heat. Finley came to San Antonio for a visit, and Pop totally won him over.

Wallace will in the end make his decision on who he thinks has a better chance to win the title since the money is the same . . . and because of that -- I think he will pick the Celtics.
