Good to hear he's coming to SA next week. That must put Boston on their toes. And that tells us that he's not sold on the Cetics still.
He said he wanted to play for the Spurs a couple months ago, so it looks like he might be getting his wish.

sheed is a starter on this spurs team. with him here this could be the most talented bench to date.

This sounds like a good cause, where is the drop off point?

Now the question is with him coming to SA and ORL next week does this mean that Boston will just sit around and do nothing or give him a deadline?

I say SA gives him the 3rd year and gets it done..if he is coming to SA this means the Spurs are set onteally getting him so they will try and get it done!

Rasheed Wallace-F/C-Pistons Jul. 3 - 10:10 am et

The traveling entourage of big-named Celtics apparently impressed Rasheed Wallace, and it may only be a matter of time before he signs a two-year deal with Boston.
"Solid, thorough, cogent and very impressive," Wallace's agent, Bill Strickland said. "[They] definitely gave Rasheed and his wife something to think about." Wallace is believed to be deciding between Boston and San Antonio, while Cleveland and Orlando could also make a late push for his services. San Antonio, who is really in need of a starting center, seems to make the most sense on paper, but the Celtics might hold the upper hand after Thursday's visit to Detroit, despite the fact he would likely come off the bench in Beantown.

I read in a Celtics forum that there is a quote from Bill Strickland that's it's "51-49" San Antonio at this point...so who really knows...

I guess the only solice in all that Hoopla yesterday is that the did not get any verbal agreement from him....he just kept them on ice! Lol

you do need different tactics in dealing with different players. steve nash was swooned by the suns sending all their big names like amare & the front office to offer him his big contract from dallas. boston was smart in showing how important he is to them by sending all 3 stars amidst their summer.

the thing i worry about is that jermaine o'neal was scheduled to visit san an as a free agent in '03, but even before he could visit he was convinced by indiana and re-signed. i hope the spurs don't miss out on a similar opportunity because they waited around. more importantly, i hope sheed gives them a fair chance and listens to what's available (which i think he will) - the agent is obviously gonna say good things about boston.

You have a point but I think Sheed is smarter than Jermaine O'neal.

Since the money is likely to be about the same, I think it probably comes down to starting/minutes and the connection/feel with the coach. Maybe Finley can share his experience just before he decided on SA?

yeah, i'm hoping for the best, though even with finley, they used a different strategy - basically they told him, "we don't need you, but we want you here" and finley liked i guess. we actually NEED sheed.

i just realized our best strategy: a game of h-o-r-s-e with manu!

what's funny about these borderline useless shots too is that he made that 3/4 courts shot a couple years ago to send a game to overtime!

If the Spurs get get Sheed, maybe they get Powe so they have insurance for the second half of the season when some of the other bigs need the rocking chair treatment to get ready for the playoffs.

don't think so Old Timer. Any money we have left is going to sheed, and that will be it for our free agency.

...after stealing the inbounds pass!! The Nuggets were up 3, with the ball, 1.5 seconds left, inbounding from halfcourt, and still lost. That was one of the most improbable plays I've ever seen.

If we were ahead by 2 points before he visited than it should be a done deal

The Spurs didn't miss out by not getting O'Neal.

not necessarily. if he meets with the Spurs and the Spurs don't impress him or say something he might not like (no guaranteed minutes, no guaranteed starting spot, etc), he could lean more towards Boston. eh, you can't say that. maybe the Spurs wouldn't have won the titles they did without J.O. or maybe the Spurs would've repeated, can't really say much on that topic.

SA needs to pass on Rasheed if it takes a 3 year deal. Wallace is too old to get a three year deal.

I would like to see Sheed play here.

I love this thread. it's and informative.

These in-person visits by the teams appear to me to be last ditch efforts, desperation(see Lebron and Artest) to get the player to change his mind. So the Spurs have a chance.

I could see Rasheed wanting less drama and I could see him wanting to play with Tim and beat the Kobe's, the Garnett's and the Shaq's.

I think more concern would be Orlando.

WOW at his choices!!!! To play with Garnett. hmmm, maybe I'll chose Tim. Hmmm, wait, no maybe Dwight and Vince Carter. !!!

Sheed is a hothead and good for at least 15 T's during the season, but he is big and strong. We need that up front. If anyone can hold him in line, it's Tim and Pop. Maybe he would not like that kind of control and would opt for Boston where anything goes. In any event, I think we have a 1 in 3 chance at him. Having Jefferson certanly makes the deal more interesting.
