Chris Broussard's take on the Celtics offer to Wallace

I just watched a telecast on ESPN about the Celts offering Wallace a contract. Chris Broussard's take is that he thinks the Celts will eventually end up getting Wallace over San Antonio. He said that Wallace isn't in a rush to make a decision and is just sitting back and looking at his options. Chris Broussard stated that San Antonio just hasn't shown as much interest as the Celtics and are hesitant to give Wallace the MLE. Their target was Gortat and was willing to give him the MLE, but unfortunately, Dallas has already secured him.

If this is true... what direction will the Spurs go in now? My assumption would be a full court press on McDyess.

I don't see Gortat choosing Dallas over us if both teams offered the full MLE. And I also don't believe that the Spurs thought Gortat would help more than Sheed in the short term (which is really what matters with Timmy).

I don't see why the Spurs would spend the MLE on Gortat but not Wallace. Even at his age Wallace > Gortat.

But he brings up a good point, the Celtics have Wallace's full attention, and no matter how covert the Spurs Are, they are not getting any meaningful face time with Rasheed.

and with that, if Rasheed has all the time in the world, the Spurs don't, they need to make a move swiftly or else it will be the end of July with the Spurs SOL

i could only see wallace choosing boston over SA if he thinks the road to the finals is easier in the east...which it would be, but i would hope he'd see we're the better team and reallly....do they need another personality like his??

This guys knows about as much as what the Spurs are doing as we do. Where was he before the Spurs traded for RJ?

I'm with you. What goes on behind closed doors or on telephone lines between agents and executives is a tough thing to predict without insiders in either the player's camp or the front offices.

As there are few if any high level leaks in the Spurs front office, Mr. Broussard would have to have a direct source from Rasheed Wallace's camp to be able to make any non-speculative claims at all. As Chris Broussard has never claimed any sort of inside source within the Spurs front office or with Wallace's camp (most reporters would be clear that they had a source if they did), I'd cool my jets until there is any other proof.

That said, I expect that the Spurs front office is considering all the options on the table and doing their due diligence with all of them. RC and Pop are smart men with a central goal in mind. They know what's at stake, and Holt's ownership group wouldn't make the sacrifices in profitability that they've made if they weren't shooting to go all the way.

I recall reading the same posts a few years ago about Michael Finley definitely signing with Phoenix.

I also recall reading the same posts a few years ago about Michael Finley definitely signing with Miami.

Lets see what happens.

Today is a little upsetting if you are a Spur fan...

We are all die hard Spurs fans in here...

Last year with Maggette....and now with Wallace ....we are waiting hoping we can get a deal done but nothing or no news comes out except that the Celts and rolling out every way they can to land the guy most of us want......

And now ontop of this we have to digest the Lakers adding Ron Artest for peanuts....oh well..

The RJ trade was great...the Blair pick was sent form heaven....

But until we can land a knockout FA in this market we are a step behind these Lakers right now....

It is what it is...

We can only hope that any failure to sign a big-name FA this summer turns out as well as the failure to sign Maggette last year.

I have to disagree with you here. I think we are the best team in the NBA right now! If Rasheed comes over, GREAT! If he doesn't, I believe there is a good reason for it. We didn't get Maggettee because he wanted too much money (more than he is worth). Look back in the Spurs history and tell me which free agents we missed out on. In my opinion, it is NONE!

We can't get all caught up in the free agency game. We need to be focused on the basketball game!

So, Wallace visits San Antonio next week. Folks here still think the Celts got this one in the bag? Furthermore, why isn't Rasheed waiting on Pop and Duncan to visit him in Michigan, like the Celts did? *shrug* Maybe he wants to take in the sights.
