He might get traded and he wont play much regardless. Still, good veteran influence in the locker room and on the practice court.

Glad to see Finley back. While he is no longer a starter, he provides great depth for 15-20 min. a game and is a great value in the locker room as well.

For the salary, ability and experience, we keep him unless something comes up by trade deadline in Feb. If we trade Finley this summer, we wouldn't get anybody who could pick up the Spurs offensive/defensive scheme fast enough to satisfy Pop and would probably sit the bench like what happened to Gooden. At least his salary comes off the books next year so let's make the best of it. Besides, players in the last year of their contract usually bust butt to impress.

I seem to remember Finley having a no-trade clause in his contract. Is this true?

having a solid veteran locker room positive player with all the newbies on the roster will really help this team be better!

Finley is no longer a player, so he should henceforth be referred to as "Michael Finley's expiring contract."

He's worthless on the court, and the team would be better served with him in the stands. The Spurs don't do it often, but this is a bad contract.

I look for them to dump Finley by the deadline, packaging him with a pick or maybe the rights to somebody.

Funny how much he gets ragged on. The last time he was, he came out and was big. I guess he needs to have those spectacular games to prove others wrong.

He is possible trade bait. Regardless though, he still has hit clutch shots last season. He played fairly well in the post season also, when others did not such as Mason.

Don't be hating on Finley. He had a good year last year.

2.5 million is big money, it is possible that Finley may not get a chance to earn this much money for the rest of his life (in basketball and outside basketball).

He basically knew that if he stayed he would play less, and possibly get some DNP-CDs. I feel that Roger Mason, Manu and Jefferson will play most of the minutes at SF and SG, with Hill playing some SG also. Also, 2.5 million is a lot for a 10th-12th man.

SG- Mason/Manu/Hill
SF-Jefferson/Manu/Mason/Finley

The reason I think Mason and Hill are ahead of Finley is defense, both of them at this point plays better D than Finley in my opinion. Plus Hill needs to be on the court in the regular season, he has so much potential that it would be a waste sitting him on the bench. Get him ready for the playoffs by playing him 25+ minutes a game at PG and SG.

It is difficult for some not start, but they can take the idea of starting, getting one touch or two, then sitting and basically playing the sixth man role. It just takes away the jitters, settles them, and allows them to play in rythm. Don't know why, but it works. (or it did for me).

He can still HIT HUGE THREES in key moments, he got us that third seed off one alone last year.

I know we lost in the first round after that, but he can hit some big threes. As long as he does NOT START I am fine with it, otherwise he can stay.

He was one of the most paid player while he was playing for Dallas and he doesn't need money deadly. He wouldn't find 2.5 million from anyone else, but he can find easily a team who will pay veteran minimum(1.2 million). He wouldn't stay here unless he was happy here for 1.3 million dollar.
Welcome back Fin. Win for Fin...

2.5 million may be a big money for you and me but not for Finley. He was getting 17 million from Cuban while playing for Spurs and wouldn't stay here if he wasn't happy for playing Spurs.
By the way he's the only real back-up SF in our roster at the moment, neither Manu nor Mason can play SF position under normal circumstances. That's why he will not be 10-12th man in our roster, he will play at least 15-20 minutes every night, unless another SF would join us.
I really don't understand why so many people are criticizing 2.5 million contract of Finley so hard. He played 81 games last year and had 9.7 points, %41.1 from down-town averages. His efficieny/salary ratio was really nice for NBA, he's not an overpaid player.

Fin's not a bad player, hopefully he will repeat the MJ conditioning for this season too. He's our most consistent shooter, always makes some 3's in a game, Bonner, Mason, Udoka may have good games however many times go 0/6 or 1/7. He's not afraid to play in playoffs either, but as has been said not sure if he can be effective from the bench.

Got an idea: Finley, Bonner and Marcus Williams to Miami for Udonis Haslem, Chris Quinn and a 2010 second round pick. The spurs get a starting power forward and an extra bench point guard. All contracts expire after next season. Why would they do it? Haslem has championship experience and he rebounds. You don't have to run any plays for him either. Which is good because the spurs are loaded with guys that call for the ball. Quinn actually is more for depth at point guard if anything. 3rd string really. And through in the pick for Williams because thats what he was and is not on the summer league team....so that makes me wonder. Plus the Spurs get an extra roster spot for this 3 for 2 trade. Miami has Beasley for the starting 4 spot and they have other guards to replace Quinn. So it makes sense all around. Spurs need rebounding and the Heat need to open things up for Beasley and not stunt his growth. Also it seems shooters flourish in Miami with D Wade. Duncan would have to move to center but the big 7 foot traditional centers are becoming extinct over time. So not as much banging in the interior as in the past for Tim.
