Nets have spoken to Lakers about Kidd

Kidd has been the object of trade discussions and rumors - with the Lakers most prominently named. Yes, the Nets have spoken with the Lakers and are considering a package of so-whats and was good years ago players, and expiring contracts (Kwame Brown, Jordan Farmar, Aaron McKie, Chris Mihm). The situation is being kicked about internally, but the Nets and Lakers have not spoken in several weeks. The trade deadline is Feb. 22 and all indications are Kidd will stay put.

"I can't speak about any particular discussions I've had with any teams," said Thorn, who re-iterated his stance that he does not foresee anything surfacing before the deadline. "I've spoken to 27 teams over the past month. Some talks were initiated by them, some initiated by us."

Several team sources maintain the team captain, who turns 34 next month, is not going anywhere. But if the Nets were to pull the trigger and move the player who transformed the franchise, it would be more for business and financial reasons than for the players they'd get in return.

Kidd makes $18.084 million this season and has two years remaining at a combined $41.1 million. Assuming Vince Carter does not opt out and returns next season (there's no reason to think otherwise), he'll get $16.36 million. Richard Jefferson, after his $11.2 million this season, is on the books for four more years at $54.6 mil.

Yeah no doubt. Kobe doesn't want any good players on his team. :eyes

Kidd for a bench of expiring contracts is a good trade for both teams. The Nets can rebuild around Carter and Jefferson; the Lakers already have their two stars, Kobe and Odom, plus few young good players adding a veteran like Kidd will bring them leadership and court vision plus Kidd doesn't care about shooting so everybody would be happy.
