That huge sucking sound you heard today...

...was the reaction by Bonzi Wells' agent after the Kings opted for Sol and basically told Bonzi to take a hike. Agent pushed too far,,,managment pushed back....Wells now to be signed by some other team for less money than he would have gotten with the Kings.

Does this make Bonzi affordable to the Spurs FO now?

Do we need another guy that needs the ball?

I don't think any other team will be able to afford what Bonzi wanted. SAC was his best option. Unless SAC does a sign and trade with players they can cut, they have no reason to help Bonzi.

Sorry Bonzi, you won't get that big contract you wanted. Maybe this will humble you. If not, you and Sprewell can hang out next year.

Never liked Bonzi, never will. Watch him here in Portland; he has an attitude and if he doesn't start the game well you usually can't depend on him late in the game. He has the talent but not the character.

Detroit used their full MLE on Nazr, so they don't have any cash. Dallas used a chunk of their MLE on Greg Buckner so they've got a little bit left, but not enough to be even remotely competitive with a full-MLE offer from someone else.

As much as he is a character issues; I would love to have him on our team....imagine; someone OTHER than Duncan being able to rebound. With all the experienced vets on the team; I couldn't see him being a cancer on the Spurs.....maybe I'm just suffering from 'wishful thinking'.

You can't trade for somebody that's not on a team.

You can S&T and that is the only way the Spurs could get Bonzi. They can't offer him the money he wants without it and the Kings aren't going to help the Spurs without something in return (the Spurs would also need to give back comparable salary in return).

And you can bet that if the Kings are amenable to a sign & trade, they can do better than Barry plus leftovers for Bonzi.

You guys can say what you want about Bonzi, but the guy can take over a game against elite competition in the playoffs. There aren't too many players who can do what he did to the Spurs. And it wasn't like the situation with Amare where we were letting him get his numbers and shutting everyone else down. The Spurs were trying to stop Bonzi and couldn't, he was killing us on rebounds and easy put back, and has to be the best rebounding SG in the league.

But if the Spurs picked Wells up, who's minutes would he take? I mean even if we just split the 2-3 position minutes between Bowen, Fin, and Ginobili its only 32 min a piece. Even assuming you cut down Bowen and Finley's minutes to something like 28 and 25, then told Manu no more than 30 min per night, there's only 13 min left at the swing positions. Unless the Spurs decide that they really want to dedicate themselves to small ball, there's just no space for the guy.

I agree, he can fill it up and hit the glass. Too bad we can't afford him.

If the Kings don't want to pay Bonzi it's a pretty safe bet they don't want to pay anyone that we could give up in order to match salaries with Bonzi.

Not necessarily. Barry has just a 2 year deal and is a better shooter than Bonzi and a better locker room guy. Bonzi likely wants a 4 or 5 year deal starting in the $5-6 million range and escalating so the commitment is $20-30 mill minimum, Barry is about $10 million. If the Kings could pick up something else that appeals to them out of the deal in terms of draft picks or the rights to Scola, etc. Right now they are looking at nothing. Getting a nice role player with a friendly contract and a prospect isn't a bad deal.

The key from the Spurs perspective should be all about whether they think Bonzi will become a "Spur guy" in terms of attitude. His talent would be a huge help because he fills the biggest hole the Spurs have, an athletic and powerful swingman that can rebound and play defense. In terms of minutes that argument is a straw man. Bowen is 35, Finley is 33, Manu is injury prone. There will be at least 30 minutes of time out there for a guy like Bonzi. Not to mention when the Spurs play small ball they desperately need a physical swingman that can rebound, he definitely changes the dynamic against a team like Dallas when you can put him on Josh Howard and Bowen on Dirk without getting killed on the boards.

The Kings already signed Salmons to take Bonzi's place, so while that it definitely a downgrade, they're not being left empty handed. If they take on Barry now they're over the luxury tax.

Also, Sacramento offered Bonzi a deal that started him at $6 mil and he turned it down. He's looking for more than that.

Bottom line, Bonzi ain't coming here.

Yes Bonzi can take over a game but usually he doesn't want to.

He played his heart out for a contract last spring. Now that he didn't get one, he will return to the same old, spit in your face, Bonzi Wells. The Spurs don't need him.

I think he could help the Spurs more by signing with Dallas.

The Maloofs/Petrie have all but said that they aren't taking back any salary for Bonzi after the Salmons signing. They are gonna leave Bonzi twisting in the wind. I bet he takes a 1 year deal and tries to cash in next season...Huge mistake considering how hot he was this offseason.

Bonzi can always spend his free time with Sprewell commiserating on how they will feed their families.

Sorry...but money and personal feelings aside...Bonzi is a talent that with the right team can be a HUGE factor to helping them win a championship.

Perhaps another Finley situation could happen with Wells joining the team? <(longshot thought I admit)

But who here would "really" not like him to be on the team.

Ginobili, Finley, Bowen, Wells...are you kidding me...I'd accept that hands down if the price were right.

The Rockets need a SG and have their MLE available. The Nuggets need a SG too.

Rockets spent about $1.5 mil of their MLE on that Spanoulius kid out of Greece. I think the Nugs have their full MLE though.
