Starbury gives Brown Little Credit

link

......According to the New York Daily News, there may be some friction between Stephon Marbury and Knicks legend and TV commentator Clyde Frazier. The whole thing apparently started a few weeks ago, when Marbury joined Frazier at the broadcast table during a Knicks summer league game. Marbury talked about the Larry Brown soap opera, saying he “became a man” during his public feud with the ex-coach: “I was pro-active. Somebody told me I went from Gandhi to Malcolm X."
Frazier reminded Marbury that Brown had also clashed with Allen Iverson and Chauncey Billups in order to make them better players. “He always tested guys,” Clyde said to Steph. “That’s what he was looking for. He wanted to see what you were able to come up with to be a man, to handle it.” Steph answered, “No, I’m not giving (Brown) that much credit. I’m sorry, Clyde.” Frazier came back: “Then where did it come from? If (Brown) didn’t do it.” Steph cut Frazier off: “No, I’m not giving him that much credit. And I’m not even supposed to be talking about it. He doesn’t get that much credit."

Starbury "becomes a man" all by himself. I don't notice any difference in his behavior pre and post Larry Brown. :eyes

I'm confused. what credit is there to receive? did marbury become a better player? Did the Knicks win games? Does Marbury think he became a man because he sniped with his coach through the media? Sad.

I think that since Starbury seems unable to even consider a different perspective (Clyde's opinion), he demonstrates just how much of a "man" he really is. His attitude appears to be "I'm right and everyone who doesn't agree with me is wrong." Nice adult attitude for an overpaid head case. :eyes

You knew all you needed to know about Starbury when he spurned the chance to play with one of the best up and coming players to create a nice tandem and walked away completely. Any player who really wants to win sacrifices to get the wins. He didn't. He isn't someone who really cares to win.

That is a minority opinion. Larry Brown is a future HOF. Whether you like him or not, he has made a major impact on the success of teams and players in the league.

He had the Pistons a few minutes from consecutive championships, and the next year they almost get beat by a weak Cavs' team. I'm sorry, but one God-awful year does not diminish his other accomplishments and consistency as a winning coach.

OK, so he was the ABA COY 3 times eons ago, took 2 NCAA teams to the finals (yes, 2), and took a ready-made Detroit team to the Finals twice. and more. Yeah, he's got a great resume. Maybe I just dislike him. But I tell you this...he's no Lenny Wilkins.

...And he was inducted into the HOF in '02.

Larry is a great basketball coach but has a very difficult personality to deal with which can undermine the success of his team because he does not handle other strong personalities very well. Put him with a team with a bunch of no-names and he'll have them overachieving. Put him with a team with egos and star players (or players who think they are stars) and he has major problems. The egos need to be massaged and Larry does not seem to have mastered that skill.
