for all the Elson Bashers

Just think our centers could of of looked liked this so don't be too dissapointed if we get Elson.

Williams
Oberto
Bonner
Tony Parker (since he jumps higher the the rest combined)

I know it's not great but lets not make him feel unwanted before he even gets here. I'm sure that won't add to his confidence and hopeful improvement over our last 2 centers. last thing we need is a player who doesn't feel like he is liked or wanted on our team. he was on Denver and How many opportunities did he really get to shine with players with our talents( don't even mention Anthony please) It is not like George Karl was preaching Defense with him either. Maybe he can actually learn a little under POP. So let's give at least thru training camp to see how he fits in. I would of loved a top center as well, but am extremely glad we have a chance with 2 new faces. I got so tired at looking at the other ones, and fresh players with fresh attitudes is what we really need anyways. Rasho and Naz were looking so frusterated and slow out there. Just my opinion, but I'm willing to give Elson and Butler the benefit of the doubt, what do we have to lose at this point.

spurs need a legit 7'0 to match up with the shaq and yaos of the league if they got wright like soo many seem to want it may help us play a fatser style but he wont help take the pressure of timmy guarding the other teams best big...who knows some of the pressure is eased with the butler signing

I agree 100%. I don't know about getting 2 under 7 foot centers, but maybe we have just been spoiled over the years.

I agree. I just don't know what he really could of shown in Denver. It takes a team to defend and to be a good rebounder. It is not like we need him to do a lot of scoring, we just need him to learn how to rebound and play some defense, I am sure Timmy can teach him some, and to be happy with whatevre roll he is given. I don't think Rasho and Naz were tolerant of their rolls, and it realize it takes a team to compete. Rasho always shot that jumper he couldn't hit and it was so frusterating.

Williams is not a center, he's a swingman.

True but without these guys he would of been our center

Parker is a point guard but might of had to move positions

The reason I hope Elson comes is that his deal is only 2 years long. If what the FO says about Ian is true, he'll be here on the cheap then, and as of now, only Butler, Tim, Manu, and Tony are under contract after that. That allows more financial flexibility.

I think Elson starts and will play more minutes than Butler this season.

Probably right.

At the "5" position I see the minutes being doled out like this:

Elson: 20
Oberto: 10 (5 at PF)
Butler: 10
Duncan: 8 (28 at PF)

you forgot horry, though. He'll squeeze in there for 5 or 6 mins. Pop loves that line-up.

So that means no Parker or Williams playing Center then?
we are finished for sure.

To be honest, I was hoping for a little Beno at the 5. Without Rasho, we got to find another slovenian to do it.

It is hard for many players to stay in shape, have good attitudes and be ready to play when they sit on the pine 90% of the season. Many veterans know better. The Spurs players are hard workers whether they see playing time or not. Tim Duncan leads them by practicing hard himself. When Elson and Butler come into this environment, it will make them work harder than they probably have worked in their current teams. Add to that, the fact that both were the 3rd or 4th option on the team, and are now coming to a team where they have a chance to be 1st and 2nd option, will make a difference.

They are now in an environment where there is hope. It is also not a bad thing to play for a championship caliber team. It is my belief that we will be pleasantly surprised by the effort and production of both Elson and Butler. I also think that Vaughn will be a great addition for his defensive skills.

We already have the best C in the league. His name is Tim Duncan.

Horry at center or PF? I expect his minutes to be down over last year.

Horry was hurt a lot last year, and he didn't show much when it counted. Looks like he's out of gas to me, but maybe he'll have a better year this time. Man, I hope so. Pop likes him, but he's gotta show something.

assuming nugs dont match, and williams is not in the mix as some predict, then the bigs rotation would look like?

butler/elson/td

td/oberto/horry/bonner

which player do you think gets the most dnpcd?

I said this in another thread, but I think it'll depend on how well Butler and Elson and bonner can demonstrate their abilities at the defensive end. We all know if you can't play defense then you don't get many minutes for the Spurs. The other thing is matchups, Pop might change the lineup according to who we're playing.
