No, I think the Spurs are going to keep them. If they don't, it'll be because they got a great deal. Besides, R.C. sounded like he wanted them in the press conference. You can tell when they are just hiding the fact that they are trade bait when that is the case, I don't think that was the case.

its really 50-50 both could contribute this comingyear then become salary dump or packaged and moved out now for whatever the spurs fo has in mind.Either way the off season has officially begun

A post on another thread said that if the Spurs trade Bonner and/or Williams it would have to be in the next 24 hours. Anyone know if this is true? If they are planning on shipping them then why wasn't it part of a 3 team trade from the start? But my gut feeling is they stay. Bonner can open up the floor for Tim. Williams, according to RC, is a gritty hard working veteran type - a type of player the Spurs haven't had in a while, and one they desperately could use. Best case scenario he is a Jerome Kersey/Mario Elie type, but of course that's wishful thinking. No matter what happens, Rasho is gone and that is reason for celebration. I never thought some team would take him off our hands.

Think of the timing of this trade. Why now? Why not wait until the free agent period? Did both or one of the teams need this deal to go down prior to next weeks draft? The Spurs may keep them for now since RC's MO is to not hold a press conference and discuss the players involved if they are planning on quickly moving them out. They throw out a press release to announce the deal but not hold an actual PC if there were plans to trade one of those players involved. We'll see. As I posted earlier today the Spurs were really working the phones attempting to make a deal and I hear that will continue. So look for much of the role players to change as well as a starter at the C position. |

One thing you have got to look at is the "timing" that all this just took place. 1 day removed from the finals. Negotiations for draft positioning. Negotiations for trade possibilities. This trade took place fairly quick. (Sooner than a lot of Spurs trades compared to the past) How long has it been in the works? USE your head now...Matt Bonner...a 6'10" what?...P/F, S/F that can spread the floor because of his 3 point shooting ability but has no defensive skills all of a sudden brought in to a defensive oriented team?....And don't believe for a moment he is a legit C in the west. Eric Williams?...an aging, once was 1st or 2nd option on mediocre teams at the time of his prime. I say positioning is being secured for a better deal. Trade

They wouldn't be getting a rookie to play him much this coming season IMO. I agree with you there. But You're a bit off on Beno though, he was the backup PG all season in his rookie year. |

I think RJ is the type guy Pop could use a lot next year....totally different kinda player than Oberto...brings that Athletic ability with that size. I doubt they would ask him to be a starter or anything though. he isnt coming here to ride the bench though IMO...he would otherwise stay in Europe |

BTW, I believe either player can't be traded with another player for 2 months. okay, rules on trading these guys: if the player is being traded in combination with other players he cannot be traded for two months. The Spurs are free to tradeeither player by himself (not packaged with other players) immediately. This restriction applies only to teams over the salary cap. They also cannot trade a player without his consent when the player is playing under a one-year contract (excluding any option year) and will have Larry Bird or Early Bird rights at the end of the season. When the player agrees to the trade, the team loses its Larry Bird/Early Bird rights, and the player is considered a Non-Bird free agent. Now when there is an option year involved, they can get around this regulation by invoking the option prior to the trade. |
