Why would Colangelo do this?

I smell a nickname here. Eric "the stationary bicycle" Williams doesn't sound too good, but Matt "the toaster" Bonner has a nice ring to it! |

it doesn't save us any capspace for 06/07 season but it does save us for the years after that, right?

The Spurs - particularly RC- has a good relationship with Colangelo Jr. San Anotnio has done Phoenix favors in the past. Not only that, but Colangelo Jr. thinkgs this is an awesome acquisition for them. Fills a big defensive need in the middle. |

The cap is based on a fix percentage of league revenue, so as the league makes more money the cap goes up, if the league makes less money the cap goes down. I'd expect it to go up as years go by, but by how much is anyone's guess. In any event with Tim, Tony & Manu making a combined $35 mil next year, and getting more expensive every year after that by another $3 mil / yr, the chances of the cap growing fast enough to where the Spurs salary suddenly falls below it is extremely unlikely. Realistically the next time teh Spurs will be under the cap will be in the 2010 offseason when Tim and Manu's contracts end. Assuming in the mean time that the Spurs don't sign anyone beyond that to big money deals. |

The Suns do have some big decisions to make, they've also got Barbosa to worry about. But they've still got Diaw locked in on the cheap for another year so they don't have to make a decision right now. I don't think the Suns trade anyone out of their core this year and they make a run at a title next year with this year's crew + Amare and see what happens. After that then they'll start deciding who to keep and who to move.
