I don't know what it's worth but raps board on realgm report that we will trade Oberto for Bonner today.

If it does go down, Bonner would provide the Spurs with a Danny Ferry type of player who can hit the long ball and the jump shot.

But he is not athletic and doesnt rebound well for his size.

But he would provide plenty of added dimensions on offense IF THIS IS TRUE.

Bonner is a perimeter shooter who could open things up for TD and provide the team with another long range gunner w/ size.

If this happens, and I can't see why the raps would do this- they might as well cancel the 06/07 season and give the trophy to the Spurs now.

at 26 Bonner is younger than most of our players and for such a big guy he's quite a decent shooter.

Bonner, I must admit know little about him, but he seems to be a decent role player, while Oberto looks to be a little overmatched in the athletic department for the NBA.

Maybe they want to make room for 6-11 Andrea Bargnani if they draft him w/ the first pick.

He can shoot it from deep and is athletic. Maybe they think Oberto can give them the lunchpail play down low when he plays because Bonner is a different type of player than Oberto is and Bargnani is more of scorer and natural talent than a guy like Oberto.

they have Bosh, Villanueve and now got Humphries, who is similar to Bonner but more athletic, via the Araujo trade. Bonner woldn't see many minutes at this roster anyhow and as mentioned, Raptors might draft another frontcourt player.
Oberto gives them some more balance at their roster, he's for sure a better rebounder than Bonner and Toronto was the 2nd worst rebounding team in the league.
so it would make sense for the Raptors.

I watched him in a couple of games last year and I remember him being decent. A lot of upside and if he can lear the system he could play some help defense. This seems more like a piece to a puzzle though. if it goes through I would imagine it will be part of a bigger deal or scenario (scola, trade, etc)

Bonner is hardly anymore established that Marks I'll tell you that much. The guy won't do much. I think the plan was to get a SF/PF since they will be picking up Javtokas who will most likely be a PF/C. With TD, Fabio, Rasho, Javtokas and occasionaly Horry playing the same position it would be too crowded. So they traded Oberto since no one wants Rasho.

The Spurs are probably going to be luxury tax payers this year and beyond, so that 0.5 mil this year is really 1.0 mil when you pay the lux tax. The year after that on Oberto's deal would cost the Spurs another 2.5 + 2.5 mil, which they wouldn't have to pay Bonner, so the Spurs could save about $6 mil by making this move.

yeah, your right about the first round...i hope they do make that trade for a first round spot. and if that first trade they're setting up falls through. but as they jamesR said, in pop we trust!
