Looks like Georgetown Finals curse will continue

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...061100952.html

Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning received phone calls from close friends Patrick Ewing and Dikembe Mutombo last week urging him to break the curse and become the first Georgetown center to win an NBA title.

Georgetown centers are 0-4 in their previous trips to the NBA Finals. Ewing lost when the New York Knicks went to the Finals in 1994 and 1999. Dikembe Mutombo was unsuccessful with Philadelphia in 2001 and New Jersey in 2003. "They've always told me: 'Go ahead and get one for us. We wasn't able to do it. Go ahead and represent the Georgetown boys,' " Mourning said. "I wanted to see Pat get one. I thought he deserved one. He put so much into the game. Dikembe had his hands full against the Lakers when he was in Philly and he had another opportunity against San Antonio. Unfortunately, he came up short there as well."

Mourning, whose Miami team trails, 2-0, after Sunday's 99-85 loss, said Ewing and Mutombo plan to attend games when the series switches to Miami. Former Georgetown coach John Thompson called to congratulate and encourage Mourning before Game 1 against the Dallas Mavericks but told Mourning that he wouldn't be able to attend any games. "He said, 'But I've always been there for you when you were younger and I'm going to be there for you in spirit,' " Mourning said. "He just told me he was proud of me. He also told me that 'You've been through enough. This is your time. Take it.' "

Although not a Center, Jaren Jackson won a title with the 99 Spurs.

This thread made me remember that sweet dunk Malik had over Mutombo back in '03. What a great team that was.
