Mr Fundamental link Tim Duncan has put up some amazing numbers in 12 postseason games against the Mavs. Spanning three playoff series, Duncan is averaging 27.8 ppg and 16.7 rpg. He has led the Spurs in scoring in nine of those 12 games and led or tied in rebounding in all 12. And I assume Duncan was being double and sometimes TRIPLE teamed in all those series? Now they are talking about not needing to even double team him. I think part of the problem is that Duncan has become less assertive due to emergence of Parker and Manu and as result our offense is not going through Duncan enough. There is no reason why Tim cannot reproduce similar numbers or even 75% of those numbers as he appears to have good movement and his skills have not gone away. Perhaps we should run the offense through Duncan every play and let him take it strong to the hoop while the others crash the boards for offensive rebounds or stay wide-open for kick-out once the defence starts collapsing on Tim. If Tim is dominant in the paint once again, that will break down Mav defence and create all kinds of wide open opportunities for the rest of Spur players. |
