The man could do some amazing things with the basketball. I still remember him in street clothes sitting behind the Spurs bench when the trade from the Nets was in limbo and wondering if he was really as good as they were saying. We found out pretty quickly when he took the court. After Silas went down in the '76 playoffs and was never the same player, Gervin became the focal point when the merger was done that summer. Lots of great memories.

When I was a kid, Ice was the MAN in San Antonio and one of the elite in basketball. Ice and his teams were damn good, but not good enough to get past the Showtime Lakers. Nevertheless, anyone who was around to see it remembers those early '80's Spurs as being very good teams who played a fun brand of basketball.

Ice, you're the biggest reason I bleed Silver and Black today and spend so much time on this board (and everyone here's grateful for that ).
