Saunders will use Zone in Detroit as he did in Minny

The Pistons built their reputation on a man-to-man defense. But the countdown to playing more zone started the day Flip Saunders was hired. Saunders became known as the NBA's resident zone guru while coaching in Minnesota, so it seemed natural he would bring the philosophy to Detroit, where he has a roster of long, athletic defenders. Saunders has been working on a new defense. Practices Tuesday and Wednesday ended with zone work -- and the early results look good.

Good! I'll take zone over their man-to-man.

Just as another Eastern conference rumour - it's kind of smelling like Granger may start over Artest.

Yup. If the Spurs can benefit from playing zone at times, why can't the Pistons? Nobody expects it to be the staple of their D like it was in Minny. Besides, Flip's matchup zone is closer to man-to-man than, say, Pop's 3-2 zone.
