Arizona Republic - The Suns also have engaged in talks regarding free-agent point guard Gary Payton, who has publicly expressed interest in backing up Steve Nash. However, landing Payton could require using the $4.9 million trade exception Phoenix will get in the Johnson trade. http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_ar...h_gary_payton/ |

They have to fill their roster with someone, currently they only have 9 players under contract not including Joe Johnson. Paying Payton the entire trade exception? Why? Does he even have one other team that would like his services?

Signing Gary Payton would be good pick for the Spurs as a backup PG for the Vet Min. If only the Spurs can't get Finley.

I think I rather have NVE at this point. Payton running the point for the suns? What will happen to their run and gun style when Nash takes a seat? WOuld be a good time for Pop to put Parker in and let him run past Payton during that stretch as he did as far back as the playoffs of 2002. |
