Video and News Story: http://www.news8austin.com/content/y...sp?ArID=143130 Austin's Toros unveiled 8/11/2005 2:38 PM By: News 8 Austin Staff Austin's NBA Developmental League team announced their team name, logo and color scheme over at their home stadium, the Austin Convention Center. The Austin Toros will be robed in blue and gold along with red and white. Of course Toros is Spanish for bulls. Toros will be on the front of the home jerseys with Austin across the chest on the road uniforms. The Toros have interviewed former Boston Celtic Dennis Johnson as a possible head coaching candidate. He's one of about six or seven coaches in the mix. That announcement is expected later this month. The home opener is Nov. 26 against Fayetteville. High School standouts, rookies and second year players of the NBA are also welcomed in the NBADL. The Toros are seeking an affiliation with the San Antonio Spurs. In fact, Spurs guard Devin Brown spent some time in the NBADL last season. And it's not bad for former Longhorn players like Gabe Muoneke either. There should be a strong level of talent in the D-League.      |

Hehe the name could have been soooo much better.Still,its cool to think of seeing some pro basketball in Austin.

Lest you forget the San Antonio Toros of the Continental Football League... Toros is a fine name...

Didn't at one time very long ago ( 80's) that San Antonio had a football team named the Toros??

Austin has had a team named after beef for over a century (or don't you count the Longhorns?). The San Antonio pro football team (that was announced but folded along with the league ---WFL? USFL?---before every suiting up) was the Wings. |
