Pistons not trading Ben and Rasheed for Kevin Garnett

Trading Ben Wallace and Rasheed Wallace?

Say it ain't so, Joe.

Joe Dumars, the Pistons' president, did just that.

Dumars squelched a wild rumor that the Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves have discussed a possible deal that would include sending Kevin Garnett to Detroit for Ben Wallace, Rasheed Wallace and two first-round draft picks.

A column by Bill Harris in Friday's Toronto Sun created quite a stir among Detroit basketball fans the last couple of days. Harris attributed the rumor to an unidentified "NBA source."

But Dumars said any rumors involving the Pistons' seven core players -- Ben Wallace, Rasheed Wallace, Richard Hamilton, Chauncey Billups, Tayshaun Prince, Antonio McDyess and Lindsey Hunter -- should be disregarded.

Dumars said he has no intention of breaking up the nucleus of a team that has reached the NBA Finals the last two seasons.

He also said he has not even talked lately with Kevin McHale, the Timberwolves' vice president.

Harris described the blockbuster possibility as "crazy" and "farfetched."

"There certainly is a chance a (rumor) like that got started merely because long-time Minnesota coach Flip Saunders has taken over as coach of the Pistons," Harris wrote.

Garnett, a 6-foot-11 forward, averaged 22.2 points and 13.5 rebounds last season. He is an eight-time NBA All-Star and was the league's Most Valuable Player in 2003-04.

I think both Wallaces' would be to high a price for Garnett. Especially Big Ben. That would burden Garnett with the defensive responsibility down low. Although, Garnett would inherit a better supporting cast, but defensively it will no longer be the same team.

...and defense is what allowed them to compete with more talented teams, night-in and night-out. Remove the Wallaces, and the Pistons don't make it to the ECF, let alone the Finals -- Big Ticket or not.

Shouldn't this end the "KG v. TD" argument? Cause, I'm pretty sure that if it were TD for the Wallace Bros., Joe Dumars would make that trade any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Rumors like this just show what an uneventful summer it has been for most. Everyone needs something interesting to discuss all the time.

In other news, despite rumors to the contrary, the sun will not in fact be rising in the west.

Now that trade would be a nobrainer, plus it would mean that RC, and Pop would get fired shortly thereafter. Something to think about for the Pop haters.

Garnett is overrated. Always has been. he is nothing more than a 6'11 james worthy that can't carry a team on his own.

True, I dont like that people think that he is the best player in the league and stuff. He couldnt even carry his team to the playoffs this year.

Do u guys remeber last year at the end of the regular season the Timberwolves had to win a game vs. the Hawks to stay alive in the race for the 8th spot. U would have thought the T-Wolves would have won but they lost to the HAWKS!! The worst team in the NBA!!!!!

I wouldnt trade him for Big Ben and Rashed. Together they are better then KG. And Big Ben is better on defense.

No dout KG is a good basketball player I just think they say he is better then he really is.

And I would pick Tim Duncan over KG anyday.
