http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=8620 Kevin (New Jersey): Hey Chad, how big are the chances of Shareef Abdur Rahim running alongside J Kidd, Vince, and RJ in a Nets uniform next season? Chad Ford: (1:18 PM ET ) They are praying. He'd be a great fit there and both Shareef and the Nets know it. The problem is that several other teams like the Spurs are talking sign-and-trade with the Blazers. That allows them to pay more money. The Blazers are trying to work out a Rasho Nesterovic for Abdur-Rahim swap. This just confirms what I have said all along about the SAR trade talks. It is the Blazers wanting this as they have been trying to get their hands on Rasho for years. The thing is- SAR is an unrestricted free agent. The Blazers have no control over where he goes. Plus, if somehow the Spurs could convince Scola to take the LLE (like Manu did), they have the MLE to sign Shareef straight up. Now, that would be an off-season! |

I know its been talked about in other threads, but while SAR is a great player, wouldn't you rather have a solid counterpart to Nazr at the center position? We've got plenty of forwards. I guess most underestimate the depth he gives us with bigmen? |

why not add scola and SAR? without Rasho, the spurs would still be 5 deep at the 4 and 5 positions with TD, horry, SAR, Nazr, and scola, not to mention the fact that SAR can play the 3 should other teams go big. i think that if portland offers this, it's a no brainer.

I just can't see the Spurs trading Rasho so SAR can have an extra $1M- not when other players have taken less to come here. Like I said- it's a pipe dream, but if the Spurs could pull off re-signing Horry and Devin using their rights; signing Scola to the LLE; and signing SAR to the MLE without having to trade anyone- they get an A+++ from me this off-season! |

1. Portland can't offer this- SAR would have to want this. And the Spurs would have to want him for this amount. I thought people were appalled at the notion of paying a bench player this much money. 2. You really want a Spurs team with no 7-footer? And a center with an expiring contract? |

If SAR and Scola come, TD will play more at Center and Naza plays the rest. You don't sign SAR and leave him on the bench, period. But wake me up when this happen. When was the last time an ALL STAR FA come to SA? (Don't count Big Dog pls).

I'm a little skeptical about the veracity of this rumour. The possibility still exists the Spurs could meet Miami in the finals- do you want SAR or Rasho on the bench if that came to pass? Plus you would have SAR, Horry and maybe Scola on the bench? |

The Blazers are losing Shareef anyway, he is an unrestricted free agent. And the Spurs can sign Shareef without trades with the MLE. It's not logical for the Spurs - unless the Blazers put a first round pick on the table, but the Blazers deal with the Spurs very often (Derek Anderson, Anotnio Daniels).

One thing I know the Spurs have tried to avoid over the past two seasons is over playing Horry during the regular season. |

I'm just not a big fan of SAR, and we already have what he could give us. I would rather wait than pull this trigger. |
