Here is a list of the Spurs "projects". Make predictions...who will be here in SA. Who will become a contributor or even a starter. You make the call.

Luis Scola 6-9 230 PF (Argentina) 1980

Sergei Karaulov 7-0 C (Russia) 1982

Viktor Sanikidze 6-8 200 SF (Georgia) 1986

Ian Mahinmi 6-9 230 PF France 1986

I think Scola is the closest to a sure thing on the list. I would be surprised if he didnt work out. The other guys still have a lot to prove.

Able to make the roster in the upcoming years: Javtokas, Scola
Projects who look pretty good right now: Sanikidze, Mahinmi
Forget about him: Karaulov

Pop himself has said he feels he is the best forward in Europe and is like Manu only bigger

Pop doesnt "hype" players

the Spurs obviously feel good about the guy

Robertas Javtokas Lietuvos Rytas (Lithuania) 6-10 1980
i haven't seen him play. i just don't know if he'll be good enough for the nba. ranges from 4 to 21 pts in games with a very large standard deviation.

Luis Scola 6-9 230 PF (Argentina) 1980
stud. a little short for his position. like marion in some ways. he has trouble against taller guys.

scola similar to marion? i don't see that comparison at all. they are both good rebounders, but in different ways. i view scola as a big guy and marion a freakish athlete. it has been said scola could not play the sf i could see marion playing all the way down to a 2.

Just a feeling. He's 23 years old, getting zero playing time (we're not talking about an 17 year old prospect) 7'0 and 215-220, must be skinnier than Andriuskevicius. He's two years younger than Javtokas, but nowhere near him in ability.

Scola: Comes over this summer. Will contribute immediately and eventually become a starter.

Javtokas: One more year in Europe, but if he doesn't come over next summer, he's not coming. Physical center to bang off the bench.

Sanikidze: At least one more year in Europe but more likely two. Could be special.

Mahinmi: See "Sanikidze."

Karaulov: Stick figure who will not develop into an NBA player.

This is his profile on the French LNB league website:

VIktor Sanikidze

His contract ends tomorrow. Let's hope he won't sign a too long deal, so that if he turns into something special, he won't have a buyout.

Scola: will be a good contributor for us, hopefully next year.
Javtokas: sorry, but after his wreck he hasn't been the same. Probably won't ever play for us.
Mahinmi: HUGE upside. If he fulfills just half of his potential he will be a solid contributor for us in 2 or 3 years.
Sanikidze: I have no clue, but I fail to be impressed by anything I've seen yet.
Karaulov: major project. I doubt he'll ever be any good.

I just found out by accident that Dijon, the team were Sanikidze plays, is the team were Stephen Jackson played in the past. He won the MVP award of the all star game in 2000.
