justin, you want to know why mr. robinson mentions Jesus every 5 minutes???? maybe because Jesus Christ IS supreme over any little NBA basketball game and rules over any little NBA basketball game....may God show you the light and take away the blindness in your heart... |

If I had to take a stance on David, I think I would pretty much agree with RichB's first post in the thread. I love Robinson, but it annoys me when the religous border on condescending. Quote:

6 pages are more than I'm willing to read from a bogus thread started by somebody who just confirmed to me what I already suspected. Go away troll. Go back to your own forum where you and your little butt buddies can argue over who your favorite team is going to draft in the lottery. Adios Justin.

I don't post much, but this deserves comment. In regards to some previous comments, For not being in the top 5 centers and having no burn to win his stats are undeniable as one of the best. Imagine if he actually thought there was nothing worthwhile in this world more than basketball. He proved he was one of the best centers of all time by doing it with one hand tied behind his back, because he had his priorities straight. Its just a game and he dominated with that realization. As far as the man? The few of you who are bad mouthing David, I doubt you know the man well enough to make a well informed decision on that. I bet if we knew you from a distance, we wouldn't think as highly of you. What have you attempted to do that makes a difference in the lives of others on such a grand scale as David has? This thread starter only proves that there are those who stand by and bad mouth those who attempt to make a difference and make something better than it was. It's ok to disagree with a man and his ideals but only the weak minded and miserable criticize the man as if they "know" him when it's clear they don't. Don't act like you know him and have held deep conversations with him. Good evaluators of people don't take snippets of news coverage and halftime conversations and claim they now know this man. Just say you don't like him because you envy him and are jealous of him.

I'm a liberal who was against the war and I think Robinson should have just left Nash alone when he said that. But Robinson is a class act and is a man of honor and integrity. While I get irritated when athletes always mention "Jesus" every two sentences or so, Robinson is still one of my favorite. |

If I had a son, I would rather he grew up to be David Robinson, than Kobe Bryant. I think that is why I admire the Admiral. He never took any of his god given talents for granted. But I have to admit that I cringed, a little, when he would bring up Christ. I didn't want his critics to have anymore ammo to denegrate his legacy. IMO, I thought the way Kurt Warner thanked Jesus was kinda tacky. I didn't want the Admiral to be remembered as tacky. The Admiral is class, personified.

Robinson is a great guy. He was the heart and soul of the Spurs for years and a big reason why we have an unselfish team. He set the standard and was a great example for Timmy - taking his diminished role with a good attitude and doing what the team needed him to do. Make no mistake. DRob wouldn't have won a championship without Duncan, but Duncan needed DRob, too. They were a perfect fit - one of the best 1-2 combos in NBA history. Defensively, they posed incredible problems for opposing teams. For many posters here, it seems like your real problem is with Jesus - not with DRob. You don't want to hear about him, and David keeps bringing Him up. Now, I'm no fan of people who talk a lot about "religion" and don't back it up. But I think David's service to the community gives him the right to say what he wants. He backs it up with action. You may not agree, but you need to respect. As for him being conservative, what do you expect? Dude was in the military. He goes to a conservative church. He has a right to express that point of view if he so desires - especially since he has served for that right. I wonder if you have the same ire when the Dixie Chicks or Jeanine Garrafolo or David Letterman voice their very liberal opinions. Many people don't particularly like those voices either and feel like they haven't earned the right to make a lot of the statements they make. Bottom line is that it's America and people can express themselves no matter who likes/doesn't like what they're saying.

I've read spurs report for 3yrs and this is the worst feeling I've ever had after reading a thread. How are we, as spurs fans, able to brag about being the best franchise in sports, how we do things the right way, how our players stay out of trouble and give back to the community? David Robinson is the un-deniable answer. He is the back bone of this organization and with out him the spurs probably wouldn't even be in SanAntonio. Any true spurs fan understands and appreciates the impact that D-Rob had on the spurs organization and the city of SanAntonio. This idiot sounds like a bandwagon jumper that's got a poster of ron artest and the eifflel tower looking down at him while he's dreaming about castro. David Robinson is the reason I became a spurs fan and is the ultimate example for how a professional athlete should carry him/herself.

David Robinson and Lance Blanks are just two guys. I can name a lot more successful black people that I like: Reggie Miller, Michael Eric Dyson, Robert Mugabe, Cornell West, Nas, Talib Kweli, Barack Obama, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, Allen Iverson, Russell Simmons, Muhammed Ali (greatest athlete of all time), Dave Chappelle. As for religion, yeah, I have issues with that too. I think it is irrational and is an impediment to scientific and social progress. Last edited by JustinFelux; 05-11-05 at 03:35 AM. |
