Yeah no problems here. Manu will be fired up no matter what, but Barry may need this boost.

Interesting. It will be nice to have someone coming off the bench who actually contributes.

This could be a bold but very effective coaching move by Pop.

I wish if he was going to do it he would of done it sooner. Last time Manu got benched it took him a couple of games to get his confidence back and he played terrible.

That would be silly. My guess is they will win, but even if they lose, Pop has won 2 championships for the Spurs, and his coaching ability should definitely be respected. However, I agree, if the Spurs lose tonight, itll happen definitely.

that make no sense! Dude is an all-star and you think he should have always come off the bench.

besides now is not the time to be tinkering with the lineup.

i don't think this is a confidence issue or where Pop feels he has "lost" minutes. Rather it is for fire off the bench.

dude can not play 35 minutes a game
he can be a great 6 manu
he can play like an allstar but if you want him to be effective and be able to play everygame he needs to come off the bench

dude he can still play in the 4 and play 30 minutes a game
he just is not a starter

I hope you are referring to him not being able to play 35 minutes NOW becuase of the the injury. If not, then I have no idea as to what made you say that.

Do you realize how much more pressure this move puts on Parker's shoulders? If Parker doesn't show up look for the Spurs to be down early.

that sucks i wanted his early driving and energy to set the tone. barry needs to stop shooting all 3s and take it to the whole. before, he took it to the whole and got some dunks and layups which gave him some confidence to knock down 3s.

he was effective

manu provides a great energy off the bench
he is a great 6 man the spurs need that
and barry did not score a point
spurs need barry to score
manu has been fine coming off the bench
so let him he already got his big contract to so he need not to worry about starting

Bad move here. Our problem is not starting games, its finishing games. I don't see how this will solve our problems in crunch time. If Pop intends on reducing Manu's minutes we are done. If you look at point differential throughout the entire year, Manu was 3rd or 4th overall in terms of point differential (Spurs were -15 ppg with Manu on the bench). This shows the value of having Manu on the court as much as possible. Reducing his minutes will backfire like it did last year.

Why doesn't Manu come off the bench more? I don't understand 'the glory' in starting. I'd rather finish a game than start it. Manu's energy off the bench is similar to what Boston is doing with Ricky Davis.

I wonder why Pop still play with Manu's feelings that way, Parker might get the same thing
but that will put Beno in the start up line

Maybe he's starting the game on the bench, so he can finish the game on the floor (and not be so tired.)

I'm sure Pop will have the best players at the time on the floor in crunch time

This could very well be a team decision.

It's quite possible that Pop asked Tim, Manu, Parker, et. al. if they thought this move could help against this Denver team. I kinda like this move. If Manu's fresher at the end of the game, the Spurs might not experience another one of those 4th quarter droughts they've become infamous for. Manu could be a catalyst for the team in the 4th quarter if he's fresh.

I think there may be several reasons to make this move:

(a) We bring energy and a difficult player to match up with off the bench.

(b) Barry gets into the flow early.

(c) Tony has the opportunity to establish himself early.

Manu is the consumate professional. Tony might sulk in this situation but not Manu. He just wants to win, baby.

sean gives two reasons

1) Barry will get open looks at the basket with Tim getting the defensive attention

2) Gino will add a spark off the bench and could be used defensively against Boykins, Manu could also post up against Boykins.

seems like Pop's game plan involves shutting down or limiting Boykins impact on the game

Its who Finishes the game and not who starts

no where has it been said they are doing this to REDUCE Manus mins

They want energy off the bench and Barry to get in the flow early

its not who starts but who finishes...
manu will bring energy off the bench that is missing with devin out. plus barry will get confidence...he already knocked a 3.

manu is an allstar, this can be very bad for his confidence. It will be really surprising if he doesnt feel angry, and play without any confidence. but im in argentina and pop its the coach of the team and knows all the secrets of the players

eather way, changing the starting line up right before a game must mess with the nuggs plans, or at least there heads.
