Surprising Stat from Game 1

Statistical dead heat

Sunday's Game 1 box scored the fight pretty even. The Nuggets finished 34-for-82 from the field compared to 34-for-81 for the Spurs, who missed 17 consecutive shots in the fourth quarter. Each team made three 3-pointers, each bench had seven field goals, each starting backcourt had 13, and each starting frontcourt had 14.

Denver was 22-for-30 from the foul line compared to 16-for-19 for the Spurs.

Notable

Denver had not posted a road win in the playoffs since a 109-101 double-overtime win at Utah on May 17, 1994. ... On the way to their second NBA title two years ago, the Spurs twice lost series openers, to Phoenix and Dallas. The won Game 2 both times and both series in six games. ... Even though Tim Duncan is making his way back from an ankle injury, the Nuggets believe an extra day off between games can benefit them, too. "It's good for both teams. We played 82 games this year, so any time you get some rest you have to take advantage of it," Miller said.
