Pau Gasol Diagnosed With Stress Fracture

Spurs’ center Pau Gasol was sidelined with a left foot injury after playing in the team’s first nine games this season. He’s since missed the past 12 games, including tonight’s blowout loss to the Wolves.

San Antonio did not release much information on the condition at the time, but Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News is now reporting that further testing has revealed a stress fracture in the troublesome left foot after Gasol had begun making progress to return to the court.

“He was (back on the court) and then they took him off,” coach Gregg Popovich said today. “We got a second opinion that it was a stress fracture, so they put him back in the (walking) boot.”

Popovich’s above quote was elicited while being interviewed before the team’s game against Minnesota tonight, so it’s unclear whether there will be a further, perhaps more official report, from the Spurs in the near future. For now, there is no timetable for Gasol’s return

another blown call. sounds like they need a new medical team.
he was trying to rehab and probably made it worse before the second opinion. spurs not making playoffs anyway. hopefully they can tank and get zion williams.

And I don't think the Spurs will be picking up Gasol's option for next year. I too believe the Spurs won't be making the playoffs this season but don't think they'll be drafting high enough in the draft order to get Williams. Personally, I don't think Williams' has a good enough outside game to be beneficial to the Spurs. I guess he could work on it but he reminds me of a hyped up Charles Barkley. But from the Duke roster, I'd prefer either RJ Barrett or Cam Reddish, basically for their outside game. And here's another personal tidbit about the Spurs I think will happen: this will be Coach Pop's last season as head coach. I think this season will drain him of the desire to go forward since he's lost the core and heart of the Spurs over the last 20 odd years (Duncan, Parker, Ginobili) that he was part of. Just a personal feeling
