Predictions anyone?

With the 2018-2019 regular season opener against Minnesota only a few days away, there are a lot of questions looming about this team and how they will fair. Recent injuries to the roster donít help any and with the Western conference getting stronger each year, the Spurs chances of winning another championship, let alone qualify for the playoffs, look somewhat dim. Iíve been asking myself many questions about this team, as I'm sure many of you have been too, and thought Iíd share them with you. Feel free to expand on your views or add to the questions below:

For the season opener, what will be the starting lineup that the Spurs will go with against Minnesota?

Due to the losses of Murray, White and Walker, this is my best guess:
Aldridge, Bertans, DeRozan, Gay and Forbes (Iím thinking Gay will be healthy enough)

Will the Spurs make the playoffs this season? No. In my opinion, based on the overall strength in the West, I think the Spurs will be either 9th or 10th best in the conference.

What kind of regular season record do you see the Spurs having? 42-40

Do you think the Spurs will make any last-minute trades to strengthen their roster? I think the Spurs will make some kind of trade or go for a free agent to go for a point guard. I donít feel comfortable with either Mills or Forbes being the point guard, long term, since both have a tendency to panic when pressed or double teamed and giving up the ball.

I expect a record of 52-30. If we had all our horses I would go as high as 55+ wins. Other than GS, there is no team I view as considerably better than the spurs. HOU is viewed highly but is an injury to Harden and CP3(more likely) would cripple their chances. Utah is fun to watch but if Pop can get Demar to play defense with passion, I still see us #3 or better.

For the season opener, what will be the starting lineup that the Spurs will go with against Minnesota?

Forbes, Derozan, Gay, Aldridge, Gasol

Will the Spurs make the playoffs this season?
Yes, but whats the point, 6, 7, or 8th seed. might as well tank and get a good pick. but also want to see them win those games so dont want to see tanking tho its necessary. plus waste of a year for aging aldridge.

What kind of regular season record do you see the Spurs having? 50-32

Do you think the Spurs will make any last-minute trades to strengthen their roster?

no. probably at best pickup a free agent gaurd.

================
keep thinking bertans will break out and finally be something usable, but he continues to suck year after year. no signs of anything more than matt boner was despite physically having the capabilities of being a better player. is it lack of confidence?

necron99 -- if you're referring to SpursFan9's opening day starting lineup prediction, the actual starting lineup was: Gay, Forbes, DeRozan, Aldridge and Poeltl. However, Poeltl got into foul trouble early and Gasol did play alot of minutes in comparison.

If you didn't refer to SpursFan9's prediction, sorry about that.

I predict our defense will be really bad (reletive to the Spurs) and we will struggle against good teams who can score.

We will be particularly bad against teams whith dynamic back courts (like Portland). We won't be able to stop them.

Concur. Our defense definitely has a hole in it. Giving up Leonard was OK with me but to give up Green in the same package was a kick in the groin. Then losing Kyle Anderson to Memphis didn't help either. Hopefully, when these guys come together as a unit and rub off the newness of being together for the first time as teammates, we might see something of a cohesive unit. Until then, I'm thinking we'll probably see much like we saw against Portland as a result, double digit losses.

Although we have only played 2 games both your predictions could come true. This may be Pops biggest test.

I heard Pop speak in an interview saying that once he realized that both Tony and Manu werenít coming back, that a comfortable zone he had before wasnít going to be there. And with so many new, young faces joining the team, his and his staffís coaching skills will be put to the test. Of course, we know that both Timmy and Manu have lent a hand to the team at their practice facility, taking some of the younger troops aside and schooling them on basketball techniques and Spurs culture. Being taught by those two would be worth their weight in gold.
