Manu has retired

Manu Ginobili announced on Monday that he is retiring from the NBA.

Ginobili did a whole lot of winning during his NBA career, playing a key role on all four of the Spurs' championship teams in addition to leading the Argentinian National Team to gold during the 2004 Olympic Games. He's also just one of seven players to spend his entire career with one team while suiting up for at least 16 seasons, and he'll end his career with averages of 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game. The Hall of Fame seems likely for Mr. Ginobili.

Heart and soul from team has now vanished for good. I am excited for be upcoming season, but must also admit that I am equally ambivalent with all the changes (+signing of Pondexter)

wow
knew it was coming but weird when its official.
and its officially over. duncan parker ginobili. what a great ride. thank you tim duncan.
man, time to watch ginobili highlights for sure.

will be funny if people remember ginobili as a "6th man" years down the road, which is likely... despite the fact he was really the big three and often, for a stretch of years, THE Closer. closers arent 6th men lol. amazing fun watching him

Manu is my favorite Spur of all time right now.

Maybe he isn't the best, but I enjoyed watching him more than the rest.

In terms of all time Ranking, I say he is the 4th best Spur of all time.

#1 - Tim Duncan
#2 - David Robinson
#3 - George Gervin
#4 - Manu Ginobili

I'm with you concerning Pondexter. I don't know what his claim to fame is but he sure must have done something or has some quality that made an impression with the Spurs hierachy. And I see the Spurs only signed him to a one year contract, partially guaranteed. Could he be just upcoming training camp fodder?

Manu --- Im going to miss watching you wear the silver and black and run the court with controlled reckless abandon. You made watching basketball fun again with your spot on passing, relentless drives to the hole, on court leadership and some of the most beautiful 3 point shots Ive ever seen. I just wish we could have come up with more bats for you to swat from the air. You are loved around the league, by both players and fans, for your play and love of the game. I know in about 5 years well see you walk to the podium in Springfield Massachusetts, probably escorted by both Pop and TD, for induction into the HOF. What a beautiful culmination to a great career. We love you Manu. G-I-N-O-B-I-L-I !!!!!!!

My favorite Manu farewell tribute remark is by Brent Barry: Leadership is not about a title or a designation. It's about impact, influence and inspiration. Impact involves getting results, influence is about spreading the passion you have for your work, and you have to inspire teammates. Not one day he didnt own all three.
