Tony Parker Signs with Hornets

Tony Parker has agreed to sign with the Hornets.

It's a two-year deal for $10 million, per ESPN. Nic Batum tweeted about a French No. 9 meeting him in Buzz City, so apparently Batum had the scoop. Parker joins his former assistant coach James Borrego, and he'll likely be a mentor to the younger guards. For San Antonio, this is good news for Dejounte Murray and even Derrick White. Parker won't be affecting guys like Kemba Walker, but maybe it cuts into Malik Monk's upside. Jul 6 - 3:30 PM

A way to show Queen kawhi that they are in his boat by letting Parker go?

Haha... no, I just think they didn't want to spend the money with their own Restricted agents in mind and plenty of guards to go around. I'm not capologist, but this should help a lot with his $15mil salary cap hold being renounced. Besides, might as well give the youth more reps with how the West is stacking up.

Does not really help the cap that much. We were already over the cap so it will mean one more minimum guy for us to sign. It does slightly help the luxury tax/ matching restricted FA. With him gone we can sign people on our team to more without hitting the lux tax. That being said I doubt we would have hit it anyway this is part of what made the mills signing so bad last year.

I just hope I live long enough to see TD and Pop escort him to the podium for his induction to the HOF. Thanks for all the memories, Tony. You will always be a Spur in my mind.

Good deal for both sides. TP wants and deserves more money and floor time than the Spurs can offer at this point. Spurs need to move on with the youngsters they've been grooming. Good luck, TP. See ya back again when your jersey gets hung in the rafters.

Now that TP9 has signed with another club and the big three (TD, TP9 and Manu) has dwindled down to just Manu, I wonder what kind of vibes Manu is feeling and getting from the Spurs toward going for another year or just folding now?

I would assume that the Spurs want him back for sure. He gets paid half the money Parker is now getting paid. His leadership skills alone are worth more than what he makes. He also played better than Parker last year. From a business stand point he is still a great investment.

I know Manu's fan base wants him back as much as I do, either wearing the silver and black #20 or sitting on the bench as part of Pop's coaching staff.

Manu Ginobili: You’ll be greatly missed in SA, @tonyparker! Thank you for unforgettable 16 seasons together. Best of luck in Charlotte and see you soon! #MerciTP

He does have a player option I think, but I don't think he leaves. He either retires or stays one more year imo.

I don't think anything happened. Just needed to move on with all their other guards. BTW, Manu is still here unless he opts out and retires. I got this from ESPN, but sadly, probably the biggest reason why Spurs didn't jump to re-sign TP:

Though Parker has enjoyed an incredible NBA career, at age 36 he can no longer be considered a quality backup. Parker moved into that role midway through last season with the San Antonio Spurs, giving way to second-year point guard Dejounte Murray as the starter. In performance terms, the move was overdue. The Spurs outscored opponents by 5.7 points per 100 possessions with Murray on the court, according to NBA Advanced Stats, but had a minus-0.8 net rating with Parker at point guard.
