Cavaliers are your ridiculously early title favorites

Ascribing to the LeBron James Theory of Championship Status that the Spurs disproved in such ruthless fashion last month, online betting site Bovalda.lv has tabbed the Cleveland Cavaliers as early favorites to win the upcoming title.

The Cavs are 3/1, followed closely by the Spurs at 9/2 and then Oklahoma City and Chicago at 13/2.

Keep in mind ó these odds arenít necessarily based on head-to-head quality of the teams.

Rather, the easier road Cleveland faces in the Eastern Conference no doubt played a part in their odds. Six of the top 10 teams in Bovadaís odds reside in the West, including five of the top six.

Still, the Cavaliers are such a young and unproven team that itís a little hard to imagine them winning their first championship simply with the arrival of James. Great as he is, they finished just 33-49 last season.

Using his career average as a guide, James can be expected to add roughly 15 victories to their total, give or take. Then thereís No. 1 pick Andrew Wiggins, a gifted prospect but still only 19 years old. (Thereís a good chance he might never suit up for Cleveland after reports that the Cavaliers are now willing to include him in whatever package it would take to land Minnesota All-Star Kevin Love.)

At any rate, the difference between them and the Spurs amounts to a coin flip. Avoid injuries and age, and the Spurs will surely like their chances to successfully defend their championship for the first time.

Amazing the things that some people do with their money and what thinking goes into it when they do it.

I believe that most of these Vegas odds are meant to get peoples money. There will be people that make bets based in these unsubstantiated odds and they will lose. Who in their right mind thinks the Cabs are suddenly a favorite to win?

I feel like the Cavs, as constituted , are a bad match up for the Spurs. based on 2 things

1) ball dominant point guard (ala stephon marbury, derrick rose, chauncy billups)

2) crazy athleticism.

I am reminded of the kinds of Eastern Conference teams that yearly would best the Spurs, the Bucks and the Knicks. They were never good teams, just a bad match up for the spurs. These teams weren't comprised of MVP quality players either, they just always made the most of their advantage and beat the spurs.

I think Kyrie is in that Marbury mold , a quick PG to get past Tony, and challenge Duncan and Splitter, or more easily Duncan and Diaw. If he scores it's one thing, if he gets an assist to Mike Miller (known spurs killer) that's another, if Lebron sneaks behind danny for a backdoor cut and lay up, thats alot of options.

Athleticism wise , I know the Cavs are green and not used to winning, but their youth can cover alot of mistakes in transition, and having Lebron running the fast break with any combination of Wiggins/Waiters/ Bennett/Thompson/ Irving could grind the spurs down in a 7 game series.

This Cavs team will be more athletic than the Thunder were, with Better 3 pt shooting than the Mavs. Not saying they are better, but a bad match up i feel.

I think the Spurs have matured into a different team and those old stereotypes don't really apply anymore!

There was a time when the Spurs could not win a Playoff series for a very long time, even though they made the playoffs in resounding fashion......

Well said. Remember when everyone said the Spurs couldn't beat the
Thunder because they were too long and athletic and the Spurs couldn't beat the Heat because of Lebron. You Member?
