Gregg Popovich contract extension equals Gasol?

Just a thought, is it possible that Gasol had some concerns if he signed with the spurs will Pop be around after Tim retires? Is pop contract extension a message to Gasol?? Let's hope for the best!!! Go Spurs Go!!!Firey

Nothing ever means nothing in San Antonio until something means something. And it'll probably stay that way until Jesus himself comes down and demands it different. And Pop would still give him a sarcastic explanation.

My first thought was it's more about Kawhi getting his first big time contract in the near future than it is about Pau.

I feel he doesn't want to see someone else coach Kawhi. All the hard work and effort they both put into his development, he wants to make sure he keeps progressing, that's just my two cents

Also factor in the former possible head coach in waiting Budenholzer is gone, so we aren't in a position to promote from within at this point.

As Ex Air Force, it could also be that Pop wants to put in his 20 before he pulls the plug.

According to Marca.com it does seem that Pau's choices are now down to the Spurs or the Bulls. The Spurs would fit him like a glove.

@WojYahooNBA: Pau Gasol turned down a two-year, $10M-plus per deal with the Lakers, league sources tell Yahoo Sports. Likely moving on.

It signals to Pau and the rest of the league that the Spurs are still going to be boring.

I think about 5.3 million. But it doesn't seem like money is the factor right now... At least we can only hope.

Not sure, but I believe only rookie contracts don't have opt out clauses.

the reason I am focused on the contract details is that perhaps Pau could sign a 4 year MLE with the options to opt out after the 2nd year---so that he could sign for more money.

As long as Pau doesn't go to OKC, I think SAS will be ok.
