Whew!! Parker okay

Tony Parker left the Spursí Game 5 closeout win over the Trail Blazers last night with a hamstring injury.

San Antonio cruised in that game, but the next round wonít be so easy against the Thunder or Clippers. The Spurs, as good a backup as Patty Mills is, probably need Parker to return to the NBA Finals, let alone win them.

Good news on that front.

Buck Harvey of the San Antonio Express-News

From those who know: Parker hamstring "not bad." Available for a Game 6? "We'd have him ready." #spursóBuck Harvey (@Buck_SA) May 15, 2014

Game 6 would have been Friday. Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals will be Sunday at the earliest. That extra leeway can only help.

After Game 5, Tim Duncan said, ďI think itís more precaution than anything. Just donít want to get him any more hurt.Ē

If this is an orchestrated attempt by the Spurs to pretend Parker is healthier than he really is, consider me fooled. Sounds like Parker is in the clear.

Marc J. Spears: Spurs guard Tony Parker underwent an MRI today in San Antonio which revealed a Grade 1 left hamstring strain. He is listed as day-to-day. Twitter @SpearsNBAYahoo

It may have felt funny or a little tight, so thank gosh he didn't pull it totally and was able to get a hold of it and start getting it treated. So as a Spur fan since 1987 and a guy who lives in California and despises LA teams... I'm going to buy a Clippers hat right now and cheer my @$$ off for them to take it to 7 games and then burn the hat in my fireplace! GO CLIPPS GO!

Still, it isn't good. Need that hammy at full strength for either Paul or Westbrook. And considering we've got the WCF and potentially Finals ahead of us, it's going to take a miracle to keep him healthy.

It was his hamstring that kept us from winning last year.

Thats a good point! I fear the worst too.

If the Clippers can take it to OKC with JJ Redick and Chris Paul at guards, the we will be ok with our guards, but there is no way we make it past Miami in the Finals without a healthy Parker.

And I thought I was a goofball. I won't go so far as to buy a Clippers hat or any other LA paraphernalia since it will burn my skin but I will root for the Clips with ya. You the MAN, MrJ. Hallelujah brother.

You are correct, grade 2 last year and this is grade one but still we need him near 100%.

Not that there was much doubt... But here it is.

@ESPNSteinLine: Gregg Popovich just announced that Tony Parker participated in Sunday's practice and will play in Monday's Game 1 vs. OKC"

Parker will need all his hamstrings to dodge OKC defenders inside - thank God is is more precautionary than a real injury.

Prediction that I hope NEVER comes true:

"Kendrick Perkins injures Spurs player. Playing field leveled by flagrant foul."
