Is Damion James an Ideal Fit for the Spurs?

Until the Houston game, I didn't give him much thought. However watching him make smart decisions and fitting in on the court with the team caught my attention. Especially not having ever been trained in Pop's system. This article from back before he was drafted seems to describe an ideal Spur.

I, too, was pleasantly surprised seeing what James could do with extended PT. He moved well in the offense, hit the boards good (9 rebs) and held his own with defense. I wouldn't mind seeing James in training camp this fall or wearing the silver and black.

He does seem like a natural fit with his defensive movements and quick reads. However, his lack of shooting makes you wonder. There were many times at HOU that it looked like Diaw was begging him to take a shot and he just passed it right back when he was open. I haven't done any research on his game to see if he can shoot but that was a bit frustrating when they needed offense at that moment and why Diaw started to force his own offense.

He did excellent all considering. He took all Austin's minutes. Then Austin got yanked for that terrible turn around, fade away!

well thats a unconfident but smart guy trying to play for the team giving the ball to proven shoter instead of brick shots...., is smart not trying to impress a coach who usually jail in the doghouse who try to impress or play for their own highlights... offense can came gradually, the instincts are there

Im sure if James is back next year and makes the squad and he is any kind of shooter at all, Pop will only have to coax him once to launch it when hes in the open. If I were James, Id make sure I was on Coach Engellands appointment calendar for some extra tutoring this summer.
