Damion James

SAN ANTONIO The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have signed forward Damion James for the remainder of the 2013-14 season.

James was originally signed by the Spurs to a 10-day contract on April 3. He has appeared in three games for the Silver and Black, averaging 1.0 rebounds in 3.3 minutes.

Prior to joining the Spurs, James most recently played in the NBA D-League in 2013-14 for the Texas Legends and the Bakersfield Jam. In 85 career D-League games, the University of Texas product averaged 16.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.04 blocks in 31.8 minutes.

Drafted 24th overall in the first round of the 2010 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks, James was sent to the Brooklyn Nets in a draft-night trade. In three seasons with the Nets (2010-13), he appeared in 34 total games and averaged 4.2 points and 3.5 rebounds in 16.9 minutes.

Yeah...but can he wave a towel?

Why....to play in 2 meaningless games?

He is a good kid! Not so bad signing! Keep our core guys fresh!
He might end up helping us in the last few games.. who knows! :wink

Two meaningless games? I consider him playoffs insurance. Cross your fingers they don't need him. The Spurs had him long enough to know that he is not a detriment to the team. That's a good sign.

He will cash that check that is all that matters.

He might even get a ring. By the way, you sound like SJax.

He will be on the squad for the rest of the season, the playoffs (and beyond?).

They must certainly like something they see in him,

If you are unselfish, reasonably athletic and have enough gray mass and drive to develop a balanced game, Pop will probably take a shot at developing you.

He will also dump you in a heartbeat if you have a disposable contract and he loses favor for you.

He'll get McGrady like minutes. I didn't see him in the game vs the Suns. No Duncan no Manu, and this comes from a coach who didn't care about the overall best record (HCA) in the playoffs. Do you really think he'll sniff playoff minutes? Ok, I guess he's a guy for training camp, preseason and maybe a cheap developing roster spot next year.

If he gets play off minutes the Spurs have a big problem. That's why I say "cross fingers". He hasn't been around long enough to learn the system. Still all in all, the Spurs are always looking for a backup small forward and as you say he may be a prospect for development.
