Granger Pissed When Told Of Trade Could Sign With Heat Or Spurs - RealGM Wiretap

Danny Granger was "pissed" when he learned that he had been traded by the Indiana Pacers to the Philadelphia 76ers, according to a league source.
Granger had spent his entire career with the Pacers' organization.
Many around the NBA expect Granger to sign with either the Miami Heat or San Antonio Spurs assuming he is waived.
"We'll meet with (Danny Granger). ... It's going to be interesting," said Sim Hinkie. "We're going to sit and talk."
Hinkie said that there is a chance that the 76ers will discuss a buyout with Grange

Wouldn´t mind at all if we can sign him

TimmyDthaWay2B 02-21-14 12:09 PM

"@ESPNSteinLine: But Granger clearly does not want to be in Philly and is expected to push for his release to try to work his way to Miami, OKC, SA, etc."

MRJONESIII 02-21-14 01:19 PM

I don't think he is particularly fond of Lebron James after the last time they played in the EC playoffs. Maybe Hibbert is a good friend and directs him our way. Stay the hell away from OKC and Miami. Also who plays the SG position better ?

Uwe Blab 02-21-14 01:26 PM

Isn't he a small forward? Would he come off the bench, or was he already doing that in Indiana?

He was already doing that in Indiana. Would be a perfect back-up for Kawhi, all we would need is 10-15 min out of him every night. Couldn't ask for a better back-up SF...just my 2 cents

WILLTHETHRILL 02-21-14 01:32 PM

He was a very talented player before his rash of injuries. I would have to say go for it if he is waived. Let Brown go either way.

JuanCaca 02-21-14 01:34 PM

i just twitted to danny to direct him to SA spurs LOLOL https://twitter.com/dgranger33

"hey @dgranger33 fans really want you to sign with @spurs if 76's relase you! pop is the best to manage minutes and keep you fresh!"

Could have swore they were over the cap...

grizzly_bexar 02-21-14 04:00 PM

They are way over, but didn't sign anybody new & big this offseason with any big cap exceptions, as I understand it. So they have the taxpayer midlevel. We had the midlevel but used it mostly on Boris.

MRJONESIII 02-21-14 05:41 PM

Does anyone know Danny Grangers status with his buyout? Any word? Don't mean to start nothing here, but I turned on my Xbox NBA2K14 and it shows him as a free agent and Evan Turner on the Pacers roster. Yes I know it's only a video game but I've never seen it to be wrong.

Go for it. I have to agree with Will regarding Granger's stability after battling patellar teninosis in Oct 2012, knee surgery in Mar 2013 and the calf injury last Oct 2013 whether he can regain his old self. But at 6'9" and his mid-range/3 point shooting ability, even if we get a fraction of his ability, we can only get better with him, IMHO.

choppsboy 02-22-14 06:31 AM

I would take him over fat a . . I mean big Baby.

There’s a chance former All-Star small forward Danny Granger, a nine-year veteran with an expiring contract who was acquired from the Indiana Pacers, along with a draft pick, for Turner and Allen, may never play for Philadelphia. Only NBA players released before March 1 can appear in the postseason with another team. But a release would cost Granger his Bird rights and the Sixers any sign-and-trade possibilities involving the Pacers’ one-time franchise player this summer.

“Danny, I hold in really high esteem,” Sixers GM Sam Hinkie said. “It’s going to be interesting. I think we’re going to sit and just talk like men, and say, ‘What is it that you want out of the rest of this year?’ If you want to talk about shellshock, he’s been in one place his whole career and has had a heck of a career already and I think has a good bit to go, so we’re going to sit and talk with him about what it is he wants and kind of the role he sees on our team and vice versa, and where that goes I don’t exactly know.”

The Sixers (15-41) have 26 games remaining in the season, the second-worst record in the NBA and have lost 10 consecutive games, nine straight at home and 20 of their last 23.

Granger (6-8, 225) was named an NBA All-Star in 2009, when he averaged a career-high 25.8 points per game, but his play and body have deteriorated considerably since. The 30-year-old played in just five games last season because of patellar tendinosis in his left knee and is averaging just 8.3 points and 3.6 rebounds in 22.5 minutes this season. He has appeared 29 games this season while mostly coming off the bench, and is in the final year of a contract that pays him about $14 million this season.

Let's not forget that Danny Granger played with Jeff Ayres and was coached by Jim Boylen.

alh1020 02-24-14 03:52 PM

I know what Granger was capable of in his heyday, but the highlighted text area in SilverSpur's link makes a statement that the Spurs have to consider (but his play and body have deteriorated considerably since) and where is Granger right now, both in his head and physically and can he benefit the Spurs with his present tools.

Nice use of italics, bold and underline in one paragragh. You're right though, there are a lot of unknowns. But I think this is a low risk/high reward situation. All they have to do is make room for him. He's in a contract year, which means he's going to really produce if he's healthy. That being said, Artest is no slouch either. I would be happy with either one. But I think Granger provides the most if healthy.

alh1020 02-24-14 04:18 PM

I have to agree with you Uwe, I would be happy with either myself as well. I'd sure like to know what's happening down at Spurs HQ these days.
