Spurs raise $186,000 with camo jersey auction

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, it would be hard to argue that the Spurs’ special camouflage alternate jerseys weren’t a fantastic success from a civic standpoint.

Worn during Wednesday’s victory over Washington as part of military appreciation night, the jerseys earned $186,000 for the franchise’s Silver and Black Give Back program through a post-game auction.

The Spurs declined to reveal individual totals. (An Express-News Twitter follower said Tim Duncan’s jersey went for more than $60,000.) Also up for auction were a ball and book signed by Sean Elliott, and a team-signed game ball.

The funds will be used on various youth programs, including Team Up Challenge, which supports community initiatives, and the Spurs Youth Basketball League.

Might be a dumb question, but do they wash those game worn jerseys before they give them away?

And miss out on the opportunity to clone your favorite Spurs player from the DNA captured on the jersey, I sincerely hope not. Oh Lord, I’ve gone nerd!!

LMAO!

And clearly, the economy is recovering! They would never have raised that kind of money during the Bush years. ;)

Two positives from this...
1) Raised money for a great cause
2) Won't have to see those hideous uniforms again
