Spurs 12/1 to win 2014 NBA title

Training camp is still weeks away, but you can already place an early wager on the 2014 championship.

The Spurs, despite having come within a whisper of last year’s title, start the year at 12/1 at Bovada, tied with Indiana and the re-made Los Angeles Clippers.

Miami, the team San Antonio came within seconds of knocking off in the Finals, is the overwhelming favorite to earn their third straight title at 19/10. That’s what having LeBron James will do for you. Or maybe the linemakers are just that impressed with the Greg Oden pickup.

Coming in behind the Heat are Oklahoma City (6/1), the Brooklyn Celtics, er, Nets (10/1), Chicago (10/1) and Houston (10/1).

Have no fear, Spurs fans. The same site listed the Spurs at 18/1 at the start of last season, and we all know how that went.

I will leave all of that stuff to the odds makers. The Lakers were probably high on their list last year too. Barring injuries, my gut tells me that no team will run away with the East next year. It also tells me that if I am a West team, I wouldn't want to face Golden State in the playoffs.

Houston lol? Bulls are good but overrated IMO, they can't beat the Heat. Clippers remain to be seen before they can say they are that high. Indy has a shot. OKC to me is always overrated, they lost some pieces and did not get better. Nets remain to be seen, way overhyped last year and overrated though because they were new and from Brooklyn.

I hear ya on Golden State. Mark Jackson has a nice crew forming with the defensive addition of Iguodala which will free up Thompson for scoring. Add to that two healthy bigs in Lee and Bogurt and to spell them, the addition of two bigs in ONeal and Speights, the Warriors look to be a running and gunning team. Add a little defense to that and you got a lot of potential. Advancing in the playoffs as they did last year only gives them encouragement for this year. I wouldn’t want to play them on a good day, playoffs or not.

I think those odds are about right.

Some of the teams ahead of us are a joke, though. I do agree that GSW will be a threat. But I'm not sure how much better they are with the loss of Jack.

There are all kinds of possibilities. No tellin' what Doc Rivers brings to the Clippers either. I'm not sure what all the hype is about Chicago. They will be good but will they be better than Indiana?

No they will not, Chicago is good but overrated IMO. They get Rose back but this is the same Bulls team who has Rose and a best record and the Heat basically switched Lebron onto their main scoring threat and threat was over. Chicago did not get better either IMO.
