Spurs interested in Telfair

The Spurs are among several teams interested in journeyman point guard Sebastian Telfair, according to Fox Sportsí Sam Amico.

Boston and the Lakers are also said to be appraising Telfair, 28.

It is not readily apparent how Telfair might fit with the Spurs, who already have Tony Parker, Cory Joseph, Patty Mills and Nando De Colo on the roster.

Telfair has never lived up to the hype as one of the most publicized New York City products in recent memory. Drafted out of high school by Portland in 2004, he has suited up for a total of seven NBA teams, including two stints in Minnesota.

He most recently played for Toronto, where he averaged 4.3 points and 3.0 assists in 13 games last season.

I get that we don't have a super solid backup PG. But gee, you would think we would move what we have if we don't like it.

Mickael Pietrus working out too for Spurs. That makes more sense.

The San Antonio Spurs have 14 players under contract and with four weeks to go until training camp opens they are planning to put a bunch of free agents though a workout.

According to Jared Zwerling of ESPNNewYork.com, NBA veterans Mike Bibby and Mickael Pietrus are part of the group. The Spurs already have a full compliment of point guards, so Bibby's chances to receive a camp invitation are very slim. The Spurs could use another small forward, which is good for Pietrus.

Sebastian Telfair is reportedly drawing interest from the Spurs, however just like Bibby, they really don't need another point guard.

The Spurs have a lot of small guards, but really only two proven guys who can run the point: Tony and Manu. Tony hasn't been too much of an injury concern, but he's now starting to enter that older player phase of his career. As for Manu, well, he's basically glass. Outside of that, Joseph has shown promise, but still needs to take a couple of steps forward to be truly reliable, while Patty Mills and de Colo are really more scorers than PGs.

The Spurs have brought in a lot of guys to work out, I wouldn't get too excited until they get brought into camp.
