Ginobili begins training in Argentina

San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili has logged 24,773 minutes in his 11-year NBA career -- a massive amount of time spent running around a basketball court, processing a bajillion things a second.

It's tiring. And Ginobili, a tenured overseas veteran, is even more worn out than the typical 11-year veteran.

The NBA offseason isn't long enough to alleviate the various ailments that nag every player. Though training camp doesn't begin until Oct. 1, Ginobili will begin his preparation for the 2013-14 season with San Antonio Spurs trainer Matthew Herring in Argentina.

Via ESPN Deportes:

"Last week I was with some health problems," Ginobili said. "I had to travel to Buenos Aires and I could not train like I wanted. Came into a rhythm and I lost all at once, so this week I hope to train hard to get it back. I'm also doing physical work to complement."

So far, so good.

"It's getting him in shape for the season and I'm working with him to re-evaluate and make changes if need," Herring said. "So far everything is going very well.

The 36-year old swingman, averaging a career low 23.2 minutes per game last season, suffered from several bouts of inconsistency. When he wasn't scoring 24 points in a 10-point victory over the Miami Heat or knocking down a game-winning 3-pointer in double overtime, he was coughing up eight turnovers against Miami's stout trapping defense.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich will likely curtail his workload significantly this season, but it doesn't hurt to get some valuable work done in the meantime.
