Guy gets blocked by Lebron and turns into a mental midget the rest of the way . . . and is rewarded with this? I know the Spurs are about loyalty - but I really question this move. Let's go ahead and sign Manu for 7 and Neal for 4 . . . and just totally eat up our cap space.

Wow... no words. I am just hoping it's a team option for the last year... two years... please. And to think.. this is for a starter that avg only 24.7 minutes per game.

The ghost of Rasho lives on....

This reminds me of the Rasho signing from years back. I'm fairly certain the Spurs FO will live to regret this signing.

There won't be a fifth year on the Splitter deal. The terms will be four years, $36 million-plus, sources tell Y! Sports.

I've thought highly about the Spurs organization for the longest time. They have been doing things the right way for a long time. Very rarely do they make a mistake most recently they did so with Richard Jefferson but it was understandable with him, he has always produced in his career and the Spurs were addressing their needs to get more athletic, it failed and they moved on. This one just hurts, there is no reason to reward Tiago for his pathetic display in the finals, how the hell does he deserve to make anything more than what he made last season? This signing will doom them for the next 5 seasons.

Final thought, I don't care what anyone says but with this signing this has now officially killed any chance we have at winning a championship.

Thank you Tim Duncan for being the best professional ever, San Antonio has been more than blessed to have you put on a Spurs jersey every season of your career. You sir are the best thing that's ever happened to San Antonio. We love you.

I hope there is a clause in there to subtract money everytime someone blocks or out wrestles the ball from him that is shorter and ligher than him.

I guess Spurs won't be able to sign AK47 now unless he takes a significant paycut and Spurs amnesty/trade Bonner. Realistically, it will probably be just Manu, maybe Oden, and some summer league guy if Neal doesn't return. SMH.

Yuk... Is that vomit coming out of my nose ! Disgusted with that one. Plus Manu in no hurry to negotiate! Kind of puts a strangle hold on any other plans! Future looks bright, now we can build around Leonard and Tiago!

When the Spurs finally do have a press conference to announce the verbal agreement or actual signing (o/a 10 July), I’m sure some reporter will ask the question --- ‘Why so much and for so long?’ and hopefully either RC or Pop or both will tell us their logic. In my mind, somebody sure had a brain dump.

NOw that is funny!!! Subtract money when a little guy blocks your shot. If we played the Heat everyweek, that fool, Tiago, would owe money to the Spurs.

Splitter better be working overtime with Tim on his moves this summer like Hibbert did w/Tim cause everytime I see him play or shoot a free throw, I keep thinking of the VW commercial where the dad is showing his son how to throw the ball incorrectly.

I can't believe people are freaking out over splitter getting paid 36 million over four years, when the Pacers just signed a deal for David West to get the same amount of money over three years, and West is in his 30s with a history of injury issues. Look around the league and see what other players re getting.

I'm with Grizz people look at every positions contract the same and you need to realise that there are just simply less coordinated humans 7" +.

It is not a new thing for centres to get paid just because they are on the court, most draft mistakes are because a team picked height rather than gamble on a wing or smaller who could get lost amongst the multitude.

Splitter may not be the best PF + but he is above average and so we had to pay to keep him. Prior to the finals he looked every cent Asik or better and this contract reflects that.

But even the finals is a red herring for those against him as it was a small ball finals that we did well with for 3.99 games, and if we won noone would care. What ever you think of LBJ he is an athletic freak who is at most 3' shorter than Tiago, he will do highlight moments like that block.

I am still to hear an alternative 7" option from the growling masses who is as good or better who you would have rather spent the money on, because you can't just say spend the money else where... just go smaller, as we needed all the height we could get to take down Memphis.

Give me Marcin Gortat any day. All around better. Tiago might be slightly better in post defense but Gortat has more nasty to him.

Ok he is at $7.7m so a bit less for an arguably equal or better player at that position, stats better but in 10 min per more.

But after this season he is an Unrestricted Free Agent and will be looking for a payday, will you pay him $10m plus a year? (Splitter went from $4 m to $9 m so there will be an increase) Will he be an upgrade for the increased cost? And will this board blow up over any slight issue and say he is overpaid?

And you can't just assume we can get gortat. The suns said just yesterday I think they wanted gortat on the roster since Len will be coming off surgery to start the season.

My main concern is getting Tim help. He's basically asked to anchor the defense and it would be nice to get him some weak side help. He's going to be a year older and his lateral movement will continue to deteriorate allowing more people blow by him nightly. Once that guy beats Tim and sees Tiago rotating over, he's licking his chops. I just want a big that can alter shots and solidify the rebounding inside since, at least twice a game, the ball slips right out of Tiago's tiny hands. That's my gripe. Tiago is a decent player with some smarts, but I feel that our defense can be vastly improved if we can get someone who can complement Tim by providing rougher play inside and secure a damn rebound.
