Injury Update: TP's Hamstring

According to his twitter and some rough google translating, TP has slight elongation in his hamstring. He says he will see how it feels tomorrow but is hopeful to play.

https://twitter.com/tonyparker

At least it isnt a small tear or anything but hoping it is still feeling good tomorrow!

Eddy from Austin 06-12-13 12:42 PM

Is it something that can get better with treatment?

alh1020 06-12-13 12:57 PM

Yeah, plenty of warmup time before the game. Pop will have the trainers, with the assistance of the SAPD, 'escort' him to the arena to start his warmup about 10am tomorrow morning. TD should be there about noon.

thesuspence281 06-12-13 12:59 PM

I couldnt find anything online for hamstring elongation treatments. I'm hoping that since he didnt say anything about it being a grade 1,2 or 3 that its even less severe? Maybe someone with better medical knowledge can help us out.

thesuspence281 06-12-13 01:00 PM

I wonder if it could have had an effect that he didnt get to the game early enough cus of the traffic/weather to be able to go through his pregame warmups.

Uwe Blab 06-12-13 01:15 PM

I'm thinking it's the same as a hamstring strain.

tabspur 06-12-13 01:20 PM

That's exactly what this. These guys are creatures of habit. Warm up routine changed, and hammy tightened up. He's going to play and be fine. An MRI revealing a slight strain means nothing.

Thats exactly what it is. He'll play :)

WILLTHETHRILL 06-12-13 01:26 PM

He will get the best treatment money will buy. He will play Game 4

Our team has vets. They know what position they're in and what a game 4 victory would spell for Miami heading into a possible series clincher on Sunday (will mark my first time in SA and look forward to watching the game at the ATT center :) )

Yeah, how effective will he be though?

TodTango 06-12-13 02:14 PM

All an elongated hamstring means is an overstretched hamstring with really means, hamstring strain.

I would guess that it depends on how he feels as if he is warming up. I would think that Sevening will monitor everything about him and make sure that he's prepped to play. While he is playing, the monitoring continues. If something seems off, then they'll pull him, he then may or may not come back for the rest of game 4. I think for Game 5 with the added day off and the treatments, he should be back to almost full strength.

I think that's not correct

I've found the following link and Tony would be out for 3 weeks if it was even a Grade 1 hamstrring strain.

Hamstring Injury (Hamstring Muscle Strain) in Depth - Hip & Thigh - PhysioRoom.com

As far as I understood hamstring stretch(which is Parker's case) is much less serious thing than hamstring strain.

SAN ANTONIO -- Tony Parker, along with all of San Antonio, really, spent a restless night worrying about a gimpy right hamstring that hampered him in Game 3 of the NBA Finals and threatened the momentum the Spurs seized with a drubbing of the Miami Heat.

A day later, Parker said he got some good news. Just how good the news is likely won't be known until Game 4 begins on Thursday night.

No Parker, No Problem?
While it's true San Antonio was significantly better with Parker on the floor in the regular season, the Spurs were 11-5 in games the MVP candidate missed. So far in the playoffs, they have fared far better with Parker on the sidelines.

2012-13 On Off Diff.
Season +10.5 +2.5 +8.0*
Playoffs +7.4 +18.0 -10.6
*second-best mark of his career
Parker had an MRI on Wednesday that revealed a Grade 1 strain of his hamstring, the mildest level of strain. He's listed as day to day.

"I was just hoping it was not a tear," Parker said. "The good news is it's not a tear or a defect. So that's the good news. Now I just have to see how I feel tomorrow."

TimmyDthaWay2B 06-12-13 04:16 PM

I read it was a grade 1 strain.

Tony is playing. Its not as bad as even the Tv reports are saying, or as is being speculated from any web based prognosis. Folks, if there was a chance of him not playing, the reaction among the staff and team would be much more than you are hearing. Tony felt some tightness, most likely from a change in his pregame routine. He was given a grade one diagnosis in order to put a qualification to the MRI.

THANK YOU LEE HIGH SCHOOL---interfering with TPs arrival to the game ;)

JuanCaca 06-12-13 10:48 PM

what if strategically spurs didnt say, to prevent miami adjustments..

thesuspence281 06-12-13 10:54 PM

I can all but guarantee you that Miami is assuming parker is playing and making the adjustments either way for game 4.

TodTango 06-13-13 12:17 AM

Tony Parker has mild hamstring strain, hopeful for Game 4 - ESPN

As an FYI, the MRI, from what I understand, there was no tear or bleeding found during the MRI. It's a strain though and TP feels it.

dark21horse 06-13-13 08:38 AM

It boggles the mind to think that the hopes of a city may come down to Tony Parker's hammy.

TimmyDthaWay2B 06-13-13 11:08 AM

"@spurs: Injury update: Tony Parker will play tonight in Game 4."

silvernblackfan 06-13-13 11:31 AM

@GregSimmonsKSAT: Traffic alert another graduation set for Freeman next to at&t tonight. Leave early for Game 4. Special note to Tim and Tony.

Only if you got wings and a tail wind. Otherwise, fill the fridge with some cold ones, pull a chair/couch in front of the tube and enjoy.

alh1020 06-13-13 06:55 PM

I was just doing some wild brain storming, passing a little time before the game starts and thought, wouldn’t it be a gas if Tony’s hamstring problem is a ruse, just to throw the Heat off their game and to get them thinking about it? I ran that theory past my wife and she told me to find better ways to pass the time before the game starts. So I went and got a pizza to feed my face. I don’t think that’s what my wife had in mind. Go Spurs Go!!!

I really thought about that. When he left, pretty sure game was already out of control.
