Blogtable: What chance for the Spurs

The Spurs win the West! What kind of shot do they have against the East?

Steve Aschburner, NBA.com: What, the West suddenly is the D-League? Yes, Memphis has flaws, Oklahoma City was hurt, Golden State overachieved as it was and – ha! ha! – some people actually expected the Lakers to still be standing at this point. But none of that has a thing to do with San Antonio’s fitness to win it all. The Spurs have the best coach in the NBA, the best point guard these days, an echoes-stirring Hall of Famer and role players who do what they’re supposed to. I see San Antonio as a toss-up vs. Miami now and a favorite vs. Indiana. So yeah, a big chance.
Fran Blinebury, NBA.com: I’ll make this short and sweet. Spurs in six against either one.

I read this this morning and was actually surprised to see that most of them picked the spurs as favorites in the finals. I guess they are assuming that since the heat are having trouble with the pacers and the spurs swept through a seemingly tougher memphis that we have the better all around team (of which i don't necessarily disagree). We are better than the heat when we are moving the ball and penetrating and dishing. We learned how to deal with shooters in the GS series but we just need to make sure, if we do play the heat, that we keep bron bron and wade out of the paint and keep them as shooters (which is harder said than done). If we play the pacers we still need to do the same but we, in theory, should be able to put them away sooner than miami imo.

Using the theory that a team is only as good as it's weakest player, the Spurs are much more stronger this year. Even Bonner has improved his game.
Every one talks about Parker however even Duncan has improved his game. Duncan's weak point has been free throws. He has improved to around 80%.
Another thing is the team is fairly healthy a thing lacking the last 2-3 years. Even Ginoble is starting to come around.

Seems like Duncans improvement has been countered by Manu's tanking percentage lately as compared to his career average.
